The launch is being marked with a Deadmau5 performance inside Oberhasli starting Friday at 6 p.m. ET, with additional performances happening over the weekend. Show “attendees will have access to 13 different virtual worlds, while visitors outside the concert experience can check more Deaadmau5-themed worlds created by Core users, along with games and other interactive experiences. These user generated worlds were recently featured in the video for “When the Summer Dies.” “Most virtual concerts so far have been like this vapor that dissipated; they had no shelf life to them after their initial buzz,” says Zimmerman. “Oberhasli has an incredible concert experience, but is really a fully immersive mau5 world that’s like a window into my brain that...
For Slander’s Derek Andersen and Scott Land, co-signs from these icons are a big deal, as some of their most cherished memories from the early days of their friendship (and career) include seeing Kaskade at the Hollywood Palladium and watching Van Buuren spin for nine hours at an Armin Only show. “It’s as full circle as it can be for Derek and I,” says Land. “We’re a direct product of going to these guys’ shows and listening to their music and being inspired by it.” But there’s a greater reason why Slander has invested so much energy and star-power into a track first released two years ago: the opportunity to extend the life of the song after it suddenly went viral during the pandemic — and the chance of raising their global profile in the process. Road testing “Love Is Gone” b...
On Thursday (Oct. 7), the first installment of One arrives in the form of a stunning mini art film created within the glitzy confines of Las Vegas mega-club Omnia. Directed by Latvian-born, Los Angeles-based fashion photographer Viktorija Pashuta, the dance performance video stars a pair of lithe would-be lovers brought together during a passionate encounter on the dance floor, before they’re seemingly separated by the mysterious forces of fate back in the hotel lobby. Watch the clip below. The dancers in the video move to “Horizon,” a bouncy dance/pop anthem with an edge of allure that was produced by the Nervo sisters during quarantine and is premiering in this installment of One. Altogether, the project aims to celebrate the culture of each city it makes...

Maya Jane Coles, “True Loves to the Grave” Maya Jane Coles and vocalist Claudia Kane demonstrate the thin line between love and hate in the video for Coles’ latest, “True Love to the Grave.” In the sort of Kill Bill meets Mortal Combat clip — a sequel to September’s equally noir-ish video for “Run to You” — Skin, lead vocalist of the legendary British rock band Skunk Anansie, barks orders over a cell phone before Kane, in striking black pleather, punches and stabs her way down a hallway to the beat of Coles’ sinewy, slightly sinister beats and then engages in a fight to the death with the masked producer. Who wins? Watch and see. — KATIE BAIN After remixing the Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande collaboration “...
Jamie Jones, “Handy Work” Ahead of his Stateside jaunt in Boston and New York this weekend, Jamie Jones is dropping new heat in the form of his Handy Work EP. It’s been a minute (okay, a year) since the Hot Creations head last appeared on the label, but good things come to those who wait, right? Right. “Handy Work” is tech house made for big rooms, with air-shredding synths and a low-end so low it shakes the Earth. A sample nod to Junior Vasquez’s 1994 track “Get Your Hands Off My Man” gives it an extra dose of drama. Jones shares that “Handy Work” came together quickly after he’d already spent an entire studio session working on another song. “I literally made the first version in about an hour, and when I played it out I knew I had something, the crowd reaction was killer,” he says...
Wilmsen notes that it’s currently unclear how long it might take for the municipalities to evaluate this request. “We hope soon,” she says. The pandemic has dealt a series of blows to Tomorrowland, which typically hosts roughly 400,000 attendees over two weekends each summer. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Tomorrowland has been forced to cancel six festivals — four total weekends in Belgium (in 2019 and 2020) and a pair of Tomorrowland’s winter events in France. Wilmsen says that organizers never intended to expand to three weekends, but are doing so in an attempt to recoup 5 million euros ($5.8 million) in lost revenue the company experienced in 2021 and an additional 20 million euros ($23 million) in anticipated losses. Expanding to three weekends woul...
Anabel Englund and Debbie Harry could be the same woman across different generations: a kick-ass vocalist initially known as the tell-tale voice of a music group (Hot Natured and Blondie, respectively) before finding solo success. Today, Englund steps a little more snugly in Harry’s stilettos with her new single “Midnight Rapture,” which samples Blondie’s 1981 Billboard Hot 100-topping hit “Rapture.” The original’s funky, Chic-inspired production gets a peaktime-dancefloor bassline boost, while Englund’s husky voice slinks and soars, building a scene where the party’s vibes are so high and the lust so intense that hearts could explode. In another nod to Harry and “Rapture” — often considered the first Hot 100 No. 1 to feature “rap” vocals — Englund delivers her own ...
Knowing her audience, Aguilera had a series of surprises in store — early on in the performance, the “Ain’t No Other Man” singer brought out Drag Race stars Aquaria, Milk, Jaida Essence Hall and Dahlia Sin for a lip-sync medley to a string of singles. Aguilera then reappeared alongside the queens, dressed in a set of stunning rhinestoned denim chaps, for a campy, drag-inspired version of her Moulin Rouge hit “Lady Marmalade.” The highlight of Aguilera’s performance came right at the end, though, when the star brought the lights down and delivered a stirring performance of “Beautiful,” wherein she reminded the crowd of the important message of LadyLand. “If I could leave you with one note for the night, on this date ...
This year, that was the same and also different, given that the official Burning Man was canceled and a “Free Burn” event drawing roughly 15,000 people happened in its place. It looked like Burning Man; it felt like Burning Man, but it many ways it did not sound like Burning Man, with the lack of centralized organization creating key differences in regards to musical offerings. But the freewheeling nature of this year’s “non-event” did not make for a lesser sonic experience, and in ways, Free Burn actually offered a refreshingly voyage journey into sound. These are five reasons why. No Massive Stages Several sound camps on the esplanade — the inner ring of the giant circle at the center of Burning Man — have grown significantly in size during the past few year...
