Dan Levy to Host HBO Max Cooking Competition The Big Brunch: First Look Photos

If you’ve ever wanted to have brunch with Dan Levy, now’s your chance: the comedian is set to host a new cooking competition show called The Big Brunch for HBO Max, and the first photos from the series have been revealed. Cooking competitions galore, but The Big Brunch centers on “one of the most versatile, yet underrated, dining experiences.” The series’ eight-episode first season pits 10 chefs against each other for a sizable cash price of $300,000. Levy, who created and executive produces the show, judges the competition alongside chef Sohla El-Waylly and restaurateur Will Guidara. Andrew Fried, Dane Lillegard, Sarina Roma, and Faye Stapleton also serve as executive producers. Dan Levy’s The Big Brunch will premiere its first three episodes on HBO Max on November 10th. HBO Shares New Teaser for The Weeknd’s Upcoming Drama Series The Idol: Watch

HBO has shared another teaser for The Idol, the upcoming series from Euphoria creator Sam Levinson and The Weeknd. The pop star also appears in the show as a self-help guru who pursues a relationship with a rising pop star, played by Lily-Rose Depp. While this preview doesn’t explain much in terms of the show’s plot, Euphoria fans will easily pick up on Levinson’s vivid, high-drama style (and the omnipresence of sex). In the clip, we see bits and pieces of Depp’s character’s lavish Hollywood lifestyle — namely a nightclub that appears to be a central aspect of the show’s plot. Perhaps even more exciting are some of the new cast members who are revealed in the trailer. Considering The Idol centers around a pop star, it’s not too surprising that a few real-...

Dan Levy Joins Cast of Sex Education Season 4

Sex Education classes are almost back in session, and this time around, Dan Levy will be teaching a class of his own. Netflix has announced that the Schitt’s Creek star has joined the cast of the series for Season 4. The addition of the breakout comedian is just one of many changes in the Sex Ed world. When the show last ended, Moordale Secondary was shut down, Maeve (Emma Mackey) accepted an offer to study in the United States, and pretty much every star of the show became a breakout actor in their own right. In Season 4, Levy plays Thomas Molloy, a famous author who serves as Maeve’s US course tutor. Thaddea Graham (Doctor Who), Marie Reuther (Kamikaze), Felix Mufti, Anthony Lexa, Alexandra James, and Imani Yahshua are also joining the show’s cast. Advertisement ...

SNL Top Highlights: Dan Levy Charms In Hosting Debut

Since kicking off Season 46 last fall, Saturday Night Live has been running closer to business-as-usual than almost any other late-night show during the pandemic. Still, if you look closely, there are differences: Their audience size has been reduced, which has often made studio reactions more muted; the schedule has featured more episodes in a row and yet longer breaks in between; and the host bookings feel less tethered to the usual promotional cycles of big movies, TV show premieres, and awards season. Case in point: 10 months after Schitt’s Creek ended, four months after the show’s historic Emmys sweep, and two months after his co-starring role in Hulu’s Happiest Season, Dan Levy took a victory lap this week with his first Saturday Night Live hosting gig. In other words, he wasn’t real...

Phoebe Bridgers Performs ‘Kyoto’ and ‘I Know the End,’ Smashes Guitar in SNL Debut

The string of Saturday Night Live debuts continued last night, when Phoebe Bridgers took the stage of the Dan Levy-hosted episode. Decked out her trademark skeleton onesie, Bridgers performed “Kyoto” and “I Know the End,” both her latest album Punisher, which was released last June. At the end of the “I Know the End,” Bridgers smashed her guitar on the stage monitor and literal sparks flew while doing so. Watch the performances below. [embedded content] [embedded content] Bridgers had quite the impressive year in 2020. Aside from releasing one of the best albums (and best song) of the year, she also launched her own record label, Saddest Factory, in partnership with her current label Dead Oceans. “One of my favorite things about this time is that everybody is liste...

Phoebe Bridgers to Play Dan Levy-Hosted Episode of Saturday Night Live

Phoebe Bridgers, author of one of 2020’s best albums, and Dan Levy, creator of TV’s best comedy of the last decade, will team up for an upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live. The Punisher singer-songwriter will serve as the musical guest for SNL’s February 6th episode hosted by the Schitt’s Creak mastermind. Both Bridgers and Levy will be making their SNL debuts. Following a month-long hiatus, SNL will return for a string of new episodes staring January 30th with an evening of comedy and music hosted by The Office’s John Krasinski and featuring Machine Gun Kelly. Following Levy and Bridgers’ big night on the 6th, Regina King will host an episode on February 13th alongside musical guest Nathaniel Rateliff. Bridgers, who was named Consequence of Sound’s 2020 Artist of the Year, recent...

Top 25 TV Shows of 2020

Our Annual Report continues as we reveal the Top 25 TV Shows of 2020. Stay tuned for more awards, lists, and articles in the days and weeks to come about the best music, film, and TV of the year. If you’ve missed any part of our Annual Report, you can check out all the coverage here.  It feels strange to say, but television has never felt more important than it did in 2020. With the ensuing COVID-19 pandemic all but trapping us in our homes, the medium has served as an essential, if not comprehensive, escape for viewers worldwide. This notion became clear with Tiger King, a show that nabbed record eyes (or so Netflix says) in the budding days of lockdown. The world became so scary, we looked to a bizarre tale of over-the-top zoo owners and assassination attempts for comfort. With...

Comedy Central Censored a Schitt’s Creek Gay Kiss Scene in India

Schitt’s Creek is currently airing on Comedy Central as part of a new syndication deal inked shortly before the beloved series made history at the 2020 Emmys. However, the TV network isn’t exactly broadcasting all of the episodes as intended — at least not around the world. According to Schitt’s Creek co-creator and star Dan Levy, Comedy Central in India has censored out a kiss between his character David Rose and Ted Mullens (Dustin Milligan). In a tweet on Tuesday, Levy called out the TV network and attached video proof of the doctored footage. The clip, meant to be a promo, focuses on the spin-the-bottle scene of the Season 5 episode “Housewarming”. While kisses between two women and between a man and a woman are shown, the one between two men — David and Ted — is edited out completely....

Final Season of Schitt’s Creek Coming to Netflix in October

It’s a week of all the best news for Schitt’s Creek and its fans. Less than 24 hours after the modern comedy classic completed a history-making sweep of the Emmys, we at last know when the show’s sixth and final season will be hitting Netflix: October 7th. Schitt’s Creek originally ran on Canada’s CBC Television beginning in 2015, but the only way to watch it in the US was on the Pop TV pay channel or buying seasons on Amazon. It wasn’t until the Netflix began hosting past seasons in 2017 that the series entered the US cultural consciousness, leading to a huge spike in popularity. That popularity culminated in a string of historic wins at Sunday night’s 2020 Emmy Awards. Schitt’s Creek took home every single award in the comedy series categories — the first time the feat has ever been acco...

2020 Primetime Emmy Winners: Schitt’s Creek Sweeps Comedy Awards in Historic Run

The Emmy Awards are going virtual for 2020 in an unprecedented move. Now in its 72nd year, the ceremony honors the best in U.S. prime time television programming from June 1st, 2019 until May 31st, 2020. Jimmy Kimmel is the night’s canary in a coal mine host, proving three time’s the charm as he presides over the live ABC broadcast. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kimmel admitted he’s bracing for a “beautiful disaster,” and acknowledged some limitations. “Not being able to pre-tape limits you as well,” he shared. “But I think what we found from watching the late night shows during this time is that you do find things that are better when you’re handcuffed.” The night will see a number of presenters hopping online, including forthcoming She-Hulk star Tatiana Maslany,...

Schitt’s Creek Makes History By Sweeping Comedy Category at the Emmys

Everything’s coming up roses for Schitt’s Creek, which have just made Emmys history. The beloved Canadian swept all of the comedy series categories at the 2020 Emmys Awards, marking the first time a comedy show has ever accomplished such a feat. In addition to taking home the win for Outstanding Comedy Series, each of the show’s four main cast members scored big in their respective comedy acting categories. Family patriarch David Rose (Eugene Levy) was crowned Outstanding Lead Actor, while wife Moira Rose (Catherine O’Hara) nabbed Outstanding Lead Actress. The Rose children followed suit. David (Dan Levy) and Alexis (Annie Murphy) earned Outstanding Supporting Actor and Outstanding Supporting Actress honors, respectively. Schitt’s Creek was also recognized for Outstanding Directi...

HBO’s Coastal Elites Feels Like a Carefully Curated Twitter Feed: Review

The Pitch: Amidst the backdrop of 2020 — the heady and often unpleasant mix of an impending presidential election and a worldwide pandemic that’s hitting the United States especially hard — five people deliver five different monologues (or, as they’re briefly dubbed, “unhinged rants”) about the Way We Live Now in the satirical HBO “special presentation” Coastal Elites. Look at the Camera: Because of the very nature of the coronavirus pandemic, Coastal Elites is a decidedly un-flashy glimpse into the lives of a quintet of Americans. From sly writer Paul Rudnick, the 90-minute special presentation (that’s what HBO is calling Coastal Elites, and although it’s movie-length, frankly, the descriptor fits) is meant as a mix of earnest sincerity and dry wit. How is this disparate handful strugglin...
