Earlier this year, the exciting news that Community was coming back with a movie was somewhat dampened when it appeared that Troy Barnes (Donald Glover) wasn’t included in the returning cast. Now, however, Community co-creator Dan Harmon says that omission was simply a mistake, and that Glover will actually be in the movie after all. It seemed understandable that Glover wouldn’t return to Community, which originally ran from 2009 to 2015, since the multi-hyphenate has grown increasingly busy with Atlanta and his music career as Childish Gambino in the years since the sitcom’s end. But according to Harmon, who addressed the reboot at a recent Variety Business Managers Breakfast, “For lack of a better word, there was a ball fumbled… [Glover] is down to...
Dan Harmon was asked if Chevy Chase would return for the recently-announced Community movie coming to Peacock, and the series creator joked, “I don’t even know if it’s legal for him to come back. “That may be out of my hands,” he continued. “Maybe something I sign for with an insurance company, I really don’t know.” On a more serious note, he said, “Everyone wants to know, is so-and-so coming back? I cant really speak to that.” Harmon and Chase famously disagreed about the direction of the latter’s character Pierce, and Chase used the N-word during at least one heated exchange. Donald Glover, who also starred on the show, has spoken about his many racist interactions with Chase, including being told, “People think you’re funnier because you’re Black.” Advertisement Related V...
Boom! Big reveal! Rick and Morty will be returning for Season 6 on Sunday, September 4th. Details on the animated sci-fi comedy’s latest set are scant, but a statement from Adult Swim announcing the premiere promises “Piss! Family! Intrigue! A bunch of dinosaurs! More piss!” Though a new season of the Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon-created series comes as no surprise due to the show’s massive 70-episode deal in 2018, the timing of its arrival remained a mystery after the slightly longer gap than usual following the end of Season 5 in September 2021. With no visual accompaniment to the news, we can only hope that the minds at Adult Swim are preparing to top last year’s video game trailer and live-action, Christopher Lloyd-starring promo. Over the past few years, Nathan Pyle has become an internet sensation thanks to Strange Planet, his beloved webcomic series in which aliens describe everyday human things in otherwise oddball terms. Now, Pyle’s webcomics-turned-graphic novels are becoming an Apple TV+ show with help from Dan Harmon. According to Deadline, Pyle and Harmon will executive produce the new show together. When issuing a straight-to-series order for Strange Planet, the streaming giant also brought on Joe Pera Talks with You and Over the Garden Wall screenwriter Amalia Levari as a showrunner. Apple Studios and ShadowMachine, the animation studio behind Bojack Horseman, will produce the series as well. Pyle has two books to his name and still regularly posts comics online, but Strange Planet is by far his biggest s...
Dan Harmon, the off-kilter comedy mind behind Community and Rick and Morty, will be taking his talents to ancient Greece. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has given a series order to Harmon’s new animated series and put it on the schedule for 2022. The as-yet untitled show will feature all sorts of strange things out of mythology, including Olympic deities, monstrous creatures, and a functioning democracy. Reportedly, it “centers on a family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.” In a statement, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn spoke about the show’s “irreverent” tone and satirical ambitions, writing, “Leave it to Dan Harmon to turn the mythos of early Greek civilization into remarkably sharp commentary ...
The trend of charity livestream table reads is about to knock you back on your coal-mining asses. Jack Black has announced he’ll lead a reading of the pilot script for his failed 1999 comedy series Heat Vision and Jack. Written by Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty) and Rob Schrab (The Sarah Silverman Show) and directed by Ben Stiller, the Fox pilot Heat Vision and Jack is a wonderfully weird lo-fi vestige of the ’90s. It starred Black as Jack Austin, a former astronaut granted super-intelligence when his space capsule gets “inappropriately” close to the sun. However, his knowledge is only enhanced during daylight hours, returning to normal at night. Owen Wilson voiced his companion, Heat Vision, the result of Jack’s unemployed roommate, Doug, merging with his own motorcycle. Together, they stumbl...
Some flies are too awesome for the wall, even while quarantined. That’s why the entire cast of Community, including Donald Glover, is reuniting for a virtual table read and Q&A today at 5:00 p.m. ET via the Community YouTube channel. In addition to Glover, who left the series in Season 5, the event will include Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, and series creator Dan Harmon. After concluding the reading, the cast will stroll down memory lane by answering questions from viewers.
