Damon Albarn Says Gorillaz Movie Is in the Works

It’s been a busy year for Gorillaz. The group steadily dropped new music over the course of the year, culminating with the release of Song Machine last Friday. Now, Damon Albarn says there’s even more on the way. In an interview with Radio.com as part of their New Arrival series, Albarn said that there’s another edition of Song Machine on the way and there will be a feature film attached to it. “Well, we are supposed to be making a film while we’re doing season two. We signed contracts, we’ve begun scripts and stuff. Making an animated film that’s kind of abstract is quite a big risk for a movie studio because they’re very expensive. If you’re telling a slightly obtuse story that only sometimes makes any sense, it’s quite difficult. That’s what we’ve discovere...

New Joy Division, New Order Podcast to Feature Original Band Members, Liam Gallagher, Bono and More

Joy Division and New Order’s interconnected histories will be shared in a new podcast called Transmissions: The Definitive Story. The first eight episodes of the series will go through Joy Division’s birth, rise, then the 1980 death of Ian Curtis. The podcast will then explore the formation of New Order and run till the release of their hit 1983 song, “Blue Monday.” “Nothing would’ve stopped us—nothing did stop us, did it?” Joy Division’s Bernard Sumner said in the trailer, which you can hear below. “Ian’s death didn’t stop us, Martin’s death didn’t stop us, getting all the equipment stolen didn’t stop us. There was nothing to go back to. There was no plan B.” Aside from Sumner, band members Stephen Morris, Gillian Gilbert and Peter Hook will be featured on the pod along with intervie...

Gorillaz’s 2-D and Damon Albarn Perform ‘Aries’ on Kimmel Live

Gorillaz are no strangers to blending their part-human-part-animation music group on the live stage. However, Damon Albarn and 2-D’s recent performance of “Aries” on Jimmy Kimmel Live was an interesting sight to see. Adhering to the same social distancing rules that all collaborative performers have been doing, it’s the first time they’ve dueted in this capacity. While Albarn took lead on the vocals, we do catch a clip of 2-D front and center singing one of the verses. And around the two-minute mark, a guy in a towel with some kind of big mask on starts doing stretches behind 2-D and even acknowledges the camera at the end of his little exercise. Albarn recently did a special performance of his solo project for Boiler Room while the Gorillaz have been dropping new songs from their Song Mac...
