Cue the Daft Punk rumor mill. The electronic music community has been waiting on bated breath for some semblance of a comeback by the legendary duo, who shockingly disbanded in early 2021 after 28 years “Around The World.” Now, thanks to a serendipitous video shared by Lil Nas X, fans of Daft Punk may soon hear music produced by one of the beloved robots. Eagle-eyed fans have lit a fuse on social media after spotting a man in the studio with Lil Nas X who closely resembles Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter. In the video, which was shared via X’s Instagram Stories, he scurries past the chart-topping “Industry Baby” artist with a guitar in hand, leading many to speculate if the two are working on new music. It’s important to note that the video doesn̵...
Although Daft Punk are officially no more, they seemingly still has plenty of content for hungry fans. The legendary electronic music tandem have released behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the music video for “Revolution 909,” the fifth and final single from their seminal debut album Homework. The clip was uploaded to Daft Punk’s official YouTube channel. Operating almost like found footage, the nostalgic video, which depicts a rave in an alley, perfectly captures the essence of the 90s with its 4:3 aspect ratio. In just five short minutes, it highlights the various locations where the music video was shot and offers insights into the duo’s artistic direction, which famously incorporated tomatoes. Check out the rare “Revolution 909” ...
Apple dealt a deadly blow this week when they announced the iPod, originally released in 2001, will be no more. While its memory lives on via features now standard to the casual listening experience (playlists, play counts, and most famously, the shuffle button), there’s one iPod feature that we can’t dare to forget: the “silhouette” commercials. Debuted in the early 2000s alongside the 3rd and 4th generation iPod Classics, Apple’s most iconic line of ads featured silhouette figures moving and grooving in front of candy-colored backgrounds and of course, their white corded headphones. One of our favorite songs to set the soundtrack for a silhouette commercial was “Technologic” by Daft Punk. It’s like a time capsule for its 2005 release ...
Electronic music pioneers Daft Punk, David Guetta and Tiësto‘s social media accounts have reportedly been targeted by a disinformation operation launched by internet trolls in Saint Petersburg, Russia. According to The Guardian, the “troll factory” is allegedly linked to Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of Internet Research Agency. The organization had been suspected of interfering in the United States’ 2016 election, according to the U.S. House of Representatives Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. The headquarters of IRA are believed to be in a rented space in Saint Petersburg’s Arsenal Machine-building Factory, which manufactures military equipment and technology. Daft Punk, Guetta and Tiësto were appa...
Nolan Wall is harnessing his artistic gift with the pencil—and with Play-Doh. Wall, an aspiring Art Director and student at Michigan State University, is taking modeling with this colorful clay to the next level. Over the last several months, he’s reimagined some of the world’s most iconic album artworks in Play-Doh form and is building a multi-genre library of works. Sharing his art on social media, Wall has shared a variety of Play-Doh-based works. Many of them recreate classic albums that served to shape electronic music as it exists today, like Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and Radiohead’s Kid A. More recently, Wall has paid tribute to more contemporary albums, including Porter Robinson‘s Nurture and Daft Punk‘s evergreen classic, Discovery. Scr...
Daft Punk are the gift that keep on giving. In celebration of the 40-year anniversary of the original TRON film, Disney has announced a vinyl reissue of the 1982 sci-fi classic’s soundtrack. The company is also pressing new vinyl of Daft Punk’s iconic TRON: Legacy score and subsequent remix album, 2011’s TRON: Legacy Reconfigured, which features reworks of the robots’ music by Avicii, M83, Boys Noize and The Glitch Mob, among others. TRON: Legacy remains Daft Punk’s only film score. Featuring an 85-piece orchestra, the soundtrack took over two years to create and eventually debuted atop Billboard‘s Dance/Electronic Albums chart. In late 2021, 11 years to the day, the timeless album reclaimed that top spot. The original TRON film was scored by legend...
In a new video produced by Fender, iconic record producer and guitarist Nile Rodgers recounts Daft Punk‘s collaborative pitch: “They wanted to do a record as if the Internet never existed.” That concept alone was music to the classically trained musician’s ears. So much so that when Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter immediately tried to follow up their pitch by playing Rodgers some demos, he declined. “I don’t want to hear demos. I make records on the spot,” Rodgers said of his approach at the time. “As a studio musician I make records on the spot. I don’t know what song I’m going to play before I get there, but when I get there what I try and do is try and come up with the most clever part as quic...
It’s incredible to think about how one of the most impactful electronic songs in history, “Harder Better Faster Stronger,” only has 18 unique words. It was a discovery made by Daft Punk fan Ben Combee, who says the realization of the song’s catchy simplicity inspired him to create a one-of-a-kind piece built around the legendary robots’ generational dance anthem. Combee created an art display similar to a word clock, a device capable of playing back the song’s audio while lighting up the appropriate lyrics with perfect timing. Combee explained that all the lyrics were able to be fit in a 12×7 combination matrix after duplicate lyrics were excluded. Then, he programmed a series of cue points tagged to specific timestamps in the track s...

Daft Punk‘s helmets may soon be mass-produced in LEGO brick form. In January 2021, one ambitious LEGO modeler named Eliot O’Brien submitted a product idea inspired by the enigmatic robots themselves. With enough support from the LEGO community, O’Brien’s submission could end up in a store near you. LEGO IDEAS is a product submission platform whereby imaginative LEGO builders and 3-D modelers have an opportunity to showcase their creations. For the chance to be reviewed by the LEGO team and potentially receive an official product launch, submissions must first reach at least 10,000 supporters. O’Brien’s Daft Punk submission flawlessly nails the presentation on Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homen-Christo’s iconic helmets to the pixel. Perching b...
Oh Daft Punk, why are you doing this to us? On the one-year anniversary of their shocking split, the legendary duo have returned to social media—and sent it into a fever pitch. The resurrection is—of course—cryptic in nature, but they seem to be rolling out a plan ahead of some sort of announcement. It started today after Daft Punk’s verified Instagram account shared an image of the duo’s logo, but refrained from including a caption. Less than an hour later, Daft Punk posted an old flier from the Los Angeles stop of “Daftendirektour,” the duo’s first-ever concert tour which spanned from January to December 1997. The performance took place at the Mayan Theatre on the December 17th of that year. Recommended Articles This post has led many to believe th...
