[Editor’s note: In 2001, Atom and His Package released the song “If You Own the Washington Redskins, You’re a Cock,” protesting the use of Native American mascots as a sports team’s nickname. Finally, after years of protests and swift pressure following the Black Lives Matter protests, the Washington professional football team changed its nickname earlier this month. Of course, we had to reach out to Atom Goren and to get his take on something that he says should have happened decades ago] I will happily accept most news — even if decades late — of progress for causes on the opposite end of the behavior spectrum from purposely being a jerk, so the name change of the football team from the Washington D.C.-ish area is welcome. I’m not sure I have a perspective that adds anything to the...
If you didn’t see everything we did last week on SPIN’s Untitled Twitch Stream, you missed out on a hell of a string of performances. We had a release-day party with Brendan Kelly of the Lawrence Arms, an exclusive live performance of Rich Aucoin’s new single, and intimate sessions with Oscar Lang, Sonia Stein, and Sloane. Oh, and that’s not even including the surprise announcement of a Saturday afternoon with Black Veil Brides. That said, we might’ve outdone ourselves this week. With the current console generation in its final days, much of the hype within the gaming industry is understandably centered around titles coming out for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. But just as the PS3 and Xbox 360 went out with a bang, the consoles of today still have some tricks up their sleeves as well. For Sony, that last hurrah may very well come in the form of Ghost of Tsushima, the final PlayStation exclusive in a generation that was dominated by them. Outside of multiplatform titles like Cyberpunk 2077, the July 17 release following a Japanese warrior in the 13th century marks what is likely the last major game for the PS4. Of course, no battle against the Mongol empire would be complete without an appropriate soundtrack, and the developers at Sucker Punch Productions wer...

It’s sure to be a busy week, so keep yourself informed through Twitter an...
Source: skynesher / Getty In the sometimes virulent world of social media, one may have come across the word simp, which is almost universally said as a pejorative. However, the history of the word itself dates back and the New York Times is the latest publication to tackle the word and its apparent rise in modern culture. Ezra Marcus and Jonah Engel Bromwich tackled the root history of the word in a feature-length piece that published earlier this week, following in the footsteps of Metro, Inside Hook, and University of Stirling’s Brig Newspaper before it. In, ahem, simple terms, the word “simp” dates back to the early 20th Century and was explained then as the shortening of the word simpleton. However, as the Times notes in its piece, the word itself took on new life in the 1980s when To...
