Redeeming physical NFTs: Easier said than done?

Despite the crypto winter, nonfungible tokens (NFTs) continue to draw interest. This has become apparent as many brands and retailers have started to offer digital NFTs attached to physical products. Known as “phygitals,” these offerings allow real-world products to be tied to digital NFTs.  For example, RTFKT — a digital fashion and collectible company — recently launched a project called Cryptokicks iRL. According to sources, RTFKT is creating digitally-designed sneakers backed by a physical product. RTFKT’s official Twitter account recently tweeted that Lace Engine NFT holders will be able to reserve a pair of Cryptokicks iRL, which can then be redeemed for its physical version starting May 1, 2023. 1/ We are allowing all Lace Engine holders to reserve their sneakers in the RTFKT I...

In the case of Davies, the Southern District of New York Bankruptcy Court granted the subpoena order as he is a U.S. citizen, while the Singapore courts granted the order to both co-founders, explained a spokesperson from Teneo.  As reported by Cointelegraph, liquidators’ lawyers have repeatedly failed to engage with the founders in recent months. “A communication protocol was agreed between the liquidators and founders but has not yielded satisfactory cooperation,” according to a hearing presenta...

‘Big move brewing’ for BTC price? Bitcoin may stay flat, hints analyst

Bitcoin (BTC) traders are desperate for fresh BTC price volatility, but opinions are diverging on when it will come. BTC/USD is currently seeing some of the least volatile conditions in its history, price metrics show. Volatility far from guaranteed Since the FTX crisis, Bitcoin has settled into a historically narrow trading range which refuses to budge. Despite macro triggers, low-volume holiday trading and a yearly candle close, BTC price action has stuck rigidly to a zone focused on $17,000. This is the least volatile period in the history of the Bitcoin historical volatility index (BVOL), and other data likewise shows that such sideways behavior is extremely rare. Two months after FTX, traders and analysts alike are hotly debating when the breakout will come for BTC/USD — and in which ...

Judge rules Celsius owns funds in Earn accounts, paving the way for stablecoin sale

Judge Martin Glenn, who is presiding over the Celsius bankruptcy case, ruled on Jan. 4 that the funds in the Celsius interest-bearing Earn program belong to Celsius under the terms of the program’s terms of use. The funds reportedly amount to more than $4 billion.  “The issue of ownership of the assets in the Earn Accounts is a contract law issue,” the U.S. bankruptcy judge wrote, citing the latest version of the Earn program’s terms of use. Those terms state that lending platform Celsius held “all right and title to such Eligible Digital Assets, including ownership rights.” Related: Core Scientific shuts down 37K mining rigs it was hosting for Celsius The judge called the terms of use “unambiguous,” and pointed out that, if the funds in question belong to the debtor, their retur...

Celebs who got burned endorsing crypto and those that got away with it

Celebrities had a shaky year promoting crypto firms and projects throughout 2022.  Many found themselves named in lawsuits over their alleged promotion of since-failed projects, while others have been relentlessly mocked on social media for their involvement in the first place. From movie stars to television actors, sports stars to musicians, many celebrities may be regretting their endorsement deals last year, though that’s not to say that there haven’t been exceptions. Who got burned? In February last year, American comedian Larry David, who co-created the television series Seinfeld, appeared in a Super Bowl commercial for now-defunct crypto exchange FTX that encouraged users not to “miss out on the next big thing.” [embedded content] David has since been named in a class-action law...

Bonk token goes bonkers as traders chase after high yields in the Solana ecosystem

Bonk, a meme token modeled after Shiba Inu (SHIB) that launched on Dec. 25, is skyrocketing and some traders believe the token’s trading volume is potentially driving Solana’s (SOL) price up. Over the past 48 hours, SOL price has gained 34%, and in the past 24 hours, Bonk has climbed 117%, according to data from CoinMarketCap. While the wider crypto market remains suppressed, traders are hoping that Bonk could present new opportunities during the downturn.  According to the project’s website, Bonk is the first dog token on the Solana blockchain. Initially, 50% of the token supply was airdropped to Solana users with a mission to remove toxic Alameda-styled token economics. The airdrop resulted in more than $20 million in trading volume according to the Solana decentralized exchange Orc...
