<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-06-05T18:35:00+00:00“>June 5, 2021 | 2:35pm ET Disney has begun development on a sequel to Cruella, its live-action prequel to 101 Dalmations starring Emma Stone. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cruella director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara are both expected to return for the sequel. As Cruella served as the origin story of Cruella de Vil, one would assume that the sequel would pull from Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians and Disney’s 1961 animated adaptation. ***SPOILER*** Then again, Gillespie and McNamara already took a significant detour from the book’s plot by introducing Roger and Anita as central figures in Cruella’s life. ...

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-21T14:44:55+00:00“>May 21, 2021 | 10:44am ET The official soundtrack for Disney’s live-action Cruella is out today, and it’s led by Florence and The Machine‘s new song “Call Me Cruella”. The song kicks off with a reinterpretation of the classic tune from 1996’s 101 Dalmations. “Cruella De Vil,” Florence Welch muses, “Cruella De Vil/ She’s born to be bad/ So run for the hills.” But where the original relied on piano and horns for a slinky, jazzy feel, Welch is here to rock. Over a driving bass line, she layers on guitars, strings, vocal oohs and ahs, and other touches of baroque pop. “Call Me Cruella” continues to gather in strength like a tidal wave, and it comes c...

Emma Stone Goes Full Disney Villain in Trailer for Cruella: Watch

At long last, Emma Stone is doing something she’s never done before: go full-blown villain. Disney has just released the trailer for Cruella, their new live-action movie about the iconic 101 Dalmatians antagonist Cruella de Vil, and Stone slips into the titular role with plenty of panache. Watch it below. In the video, Stone commits to the bit by playing up the camp icon’s over-the-top persona and establishing herself as a woman who shouldn’t be messed with. The Oscar-winning actress previously described Cruella as “punk rock”. Between the set design taking place in 1970’s London and her runway-ready gothic outfits, it looks like she was right to make that comparison. Cruella will serve as a prequel to the events of 101 Dalmatians in the same way that Maleficent reimagined what happen...
