BBC garner bumper figures despite former Chelsea star’s annoying habit

The European Championships continued apace yesterday and thankfully passed without a repeat of the previous day’s drama. Denmark star Christian Eriksen appears to be making good progress – news which will be music to the ears of every football fan. England got their campaign underway with a victory over Croatia on Sunday, and they will have a keen eye on proceedings in Scotland this afternoon. Our latest Euro 2020 Diary takes a look at some of the talking points around England’s win. Phillips bosses moaning Modric Luka Modric is undoubtedly a great footballer. However, are we alone in thinking that he’s also a bit too whiny? The Croatian midfielder threw his toys out of the pram at the 2018 World Cup with a memorable tantrum about the ‘Three Lions’ song. Luka Modric has clarified his comme...

All Euro 2020 nation crests redesigned, for the modern era

National team crests are just different from their club counterparts. Both are an integral part of the team’s history, and both are definitely tattooed on many of the fans. However, in the past decade or so, most national team crests have already been updated and bought into the modern era of design. National team crests also seem to be simpler and have less elements than their club counterparts. That being said, I did find some ways to further simplify them. In some cases through minor changes without removing elements. It was also interesting to note how similar some of the crests can be to each other. For example Scotland, Netherlands & Wales all feature a roaring majestic lion or dragon. Or how Sweden and Finland, both nordic countries, feature their flags on a shield. I have tried...

Villa star’s inclusion could help Spurs man shine as England start their Euro 2020 adventure

England’s pursuit of Euro 2020 glory begins at familiar Wembley Stadium as they take on Croatia in the Group D opener on Sunday afternoon. Widely considered as one of the top-three favourites to win the competition, England are looking to exact revenge on Croatia for heartbreaking 2018 World Cup elimination. After reaching the round of 16 at Euro 2016, the Croatians are hoping to qualify for the tournament’s knock-outs twice in a row for the first time in the country’s history. Note: You can watch all Euro 2020 games via live streaming. England vs Croatia Head-To-Head The last meeting between these two teams at a major tournament left a bitter taste in England’s mouths, with Croatia running out 2-1 extra-time winners in the 2018 World Cup semi-finals. However, the Three Lions dismantl...

Euro 2020: Manchester United skipper boosts England squad

Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire, was in England training ahead of their Euros kickoff. And Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson was also seen sprinting at the Three Lions base in a major boost for boss Gareth Southgate, reports the Sun. Both had injury doubts hanging over them heading into the tournament. It’s too early to tell whether either man could feature in Sunday’s opener against Croatia at Wembley. But seeing two senior men and leaders back among the rest of the group is a shot in the arm for Southgate. West Ham and Tottenham stars in line to shine in tough Euro 2020 group

Of all the Euro 2020 groups, Group D is perhaps the one with the fieriest rivalries. England begin their campaign with a clash against Croatia. The Three Lions will still be hurting from the World Cup semi-final defeat back in 2018, and will be hungry for revenge. They follow this up with a fixture against neighbours Scotland, who qualified for their first major tournament since 1998. England vs Scotland at Wembley? Yes please! The final team in the group is Czech Republic. Despite being underdogs, they boast the best finish in European Championship history in their group, finishing second in 1996. It’s shaping up to be a group worth watching. Croatia – Mislav Orsic Orsic destroyed one English team – can he do it again? The man who gives Tottenham Hotspur fans nightmares. Mislav Orsic has ...

Belgium coach: Kevin De Bruyne’s Euro 2020 participation still unclear

The possibility of Kevin De Bruyne competing for Belgium in the European Championship remains unclear as he recovers from facial fractures, coach Roberto Martinez said on Wednesday. The midfield talisman broke his nose and eye socket in a clash in the Champions League final last weekend but it would be days before Belgium were clear about his chances of competing, Martinez told reporters. “I would say that until next week we won’t know exactly where we are with Kevin. Now, allow him now to relax. “He could be available for the Euros but when, we don’t know at the moment. It’s too early to give you an answer now, we must first get the green light from the medical side.” De Bruyne had been scheduled to join up with Belgium’s squad just days before their opening Group B match against Russia i...

Euro 2020: Gareth Southgate invites Bukayo Saka, 24 others

Gareth Southgate hit back at the critics after selecting Trent Alexander-Arnold for England’s Euro 2020 squad as the Three Lions boss admitted Harry Maguire is a doubt for the opener against Croatia. Alexander-Arnold had to endure a nervous wait before learning he had made the cut after spending much of the season out of favour with Southgate. The 22-year-old was left out of Southgate’s England squad for their World Cup qualifiers in March. But Alexander-Arnold’s strong end to the season with Liverpool convinced Southgate to restore the right-back to his squad. Alexander-Arnold responded to his selection by tweeting: “Always believe in yourself. Silence the doubters.” Irritated by the inaccurate pre-announcement reports that he would drop Alexander-Arnold, Southgate insisted he never lost ...

Lingard and Garner steal the headlines, but how are the rest of Man Utd’s loanees doing this season?

Manchester United’s link with their academy is synonymous and the list of talent which has come through the ranks onto the pitch at Old Trafford is endless. However, progression into the first team isn’t something which comes easy, and even those of the most fame now – including David Beckham – sometimes have to go out on loan to prove their worth. We’ve profiled some of the United players currently out on loan this season – both young and old – and assessed what their chances are of returning to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s line-up at Old Trafford anytime soon. Jesse Lingard We’re going to start off with the players currently loaned out to clubs within the United Kingdom and undoubtedly, Jesse Lingard has started to shine since his move to West Ham United. The 28-year-old is the only name on th...

Lucas Moura: Tottenham squad united behind Jose Mourinho

Lucas Moura has insisted that the whole Tottenham squad are united behind under-fire boss Jose Mourinho amid the club’s turbulent 2020-21 campaign. Mourinho’s position in the Spurs dugout has been called into question in the wake of a nightmare week which saw the team follow up a north London derby defeat to Arsenal by exiting the Europa League in shocking fashion at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb. Spurs were thrashed 3-0 in the second leg of that last-16 tie in Croatia, but responded by beating Aston Villa 2-0 in the Premier League on Sunday, with Moura issuing a rallying cry in his post-match interview. “It’s been a very bad week for us, the feeling was very bad,” the Spurs winger told the Evening Standard : “Last night, we showed our nature, we showed attitude. “The good thing about footbal...

The collection of Highlander Adventure treks has been expanded for 2021. We take a look at the exciting new trails on offer In 2020, I joined my first Highlander Adventure trek in Croatia and was thoroughly won over by the semi-solo style of trekking. Below, I take a look at every trek on this year’s calendar, from the original Highlander Velebit in Croatia to the new trails currently being mapped in the Middle East and North Africa. What is the Highlander Adventure? The Highlander Adventure is a collection of organised five-day treks through some of Europe’s premier hiking regions, home to magnificent expanses of wilderness.
