Jeff Rosenstock and Laura Stevenson have shared their latest Neil Young covers EP, Younger Still. Stream it below via Bandcamp. Back in 2019, the collaborators and friends started working on a new EP at Rosenstock’s Brooklyn apartment before he moved to Los Angeles. Then, the pandemic came, and work on the project was put on hold as the artists focused on their own endeavors. This summer, Stevenson made the trip to LA, and they recorded a completely different EP that became Younger Still. The four-track collection arrives ahead of Rosenstock and Stevenson’s joint tour kicking off later this month featuring stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and more. Entitled Only the Strong Survive, the album sees Springsteen put hit own spin on songs by Diana Ross and the Supremes (“Someday We’ll Be Together”), The Commodores (“Night Shift”), and Aretha Franklin (“Don’t Play That Song”). Blue Note Records has announced a new covers album titled Here It Is: A Tribute to Leonard Cohen. Out October 14th, it features a star-studded lineup of vocalists including Peter Gabriel, Iggy Pop, and Mavis Staples. Among the other heavy hitters on the LP are Norah Jones, Nathaniel Rateliff, and James Taylor, the latter of whom recorded a version of “Coming Back to You” that serves as the lead single. The six-song covers project is out June 9th via Atlantic, and as a preview, Clarkson has shared her rendition of Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever.” Clarkson and her band have covered over 500 songs since The Kelly Clarkson Show premiered in 2019, and while the television performances have long charmed the internet, KELLYOKE offers new studio recordings of a few choice tracks, from Eilish’s 2021 single to a Radiohead classic to a song from Linda Ronstadt. Neneh Cherry has revealed the tracklist for her upcoming collaborative album, The Versions, out June 10th via Republic Records. The 10-track LP was heralded by Robyn’s take on the singer-songwriter’s 1988 worldwide hit “Buffalo Stance” featuring a guest assist from Mapei, but will also include interpretations from her substantial discography by the likes of ANOHNI (“Woman”), Seinabo Sey (“Kisses on the Wind”), Jamila Woods (Man’s Europe-exclusive single “Kootchi”), and more, plus a remix of 1993’s “Buddy X” by Honey Dijon. The list of all-female collaborators on the studio set were hand selected by Cherry due to their personal connections to her life, career and music. ANTI- Records has announced a collaborative album between Mavis Staples and the late Levon Helm titled Carry Me Home, out May 20th. The first single is their take on the gospel and blues standard “You Got to Move.” Carry Me Home marks one of Helm’s final recordings before his death in 2012. It comes from a session with Staples recorded at the former member of The Band’s Woodstock studio in the summer of 2011, which wound up being their last performance together. The 12-track album contains covers of songs made famous by Nina Simone, The Impressions, Bob Dylan, and The Rolling Stones, as well as The Band’s own “The Weight.” Pre-orders are ongoing.
