<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-16T04:00:48+00:00“>April 16, 2021 | 12:00am ET Paul McCartney has just released McCartney III Imagined, his new album of covers and remixes by St. Vincent, Damon Albarn, Josh Homme, and many other marquee artists. Stream it below via Apple Music or Spotify. If the title didn’t make it obvious, this new LP was composed entirely by other musicians as they reimagine McCartney III, the solo album he dropped last December. Because that record was written, performed, recorded, and produced entirely by McCartney himself, it’s extra fitting for the former Beatle to put that same material in the hands of others to see how it sounds from different perspectives. As we heard in early singles...

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-11T15:06:11+00:00“>April 11, 2021 | 11:06am ET Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox are “Breaking the Law” in their latest “Sunday Lunch” quarantine performance, taking on the Judas Priest classic. Once again, they are joined by a mysterious guitarist, and this time Fripp even gets in on the vocals. Looking like a seductive police officer, Toyah sports a badge, handcuffs, sunglasses, a billy club, and a police cap as she sings the iconic metal tune. King Crimson founder Fripp, who usually just sticks to the guitar for these “Sunday Lunch” covers, chimes in with the “Breaking the law, Breaking the law” chorus, as Toyah handles the verses. As has been the case in recent “Sunday Lunc...

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-09T15:37:32+00:00“>April 9, 2021 | 11:37am ET Jon Hopkins has announced a new EP of cover songs called Piano Versions. The four-track release is due out April 16th via Domino, but the electronic mastermind has shared a song from the EP today — a cover of Roger Eno and Brian Eno’s “Wintergreen” — that you can stream below. On their original version of “Wintergreen”, taken from their 2020 album Mixing Colours, the Eno brothers use glittery keyboard notes to build a sparse, minimalist, electronic piece that sounds like the night sky slowly coming to life. For his take on the track, Hopkins uses an actual piano to mirror each movement of the piece. It’s quiet and stirring, and by the...

The quarantine performance follows the recent release of Lamb of God’s deluxe edition of their self-titled 2020 album. It’s no secret that Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe is a huge Bad Brains fan. In fact, he even fronted the legendary hardcore group during a few songs at a handful of gigs in 2017. Lamb of God recorded “I Against I” for their 2018 covers album Legion: XX, which they released under their original band name, Burn the Priest. Blythe was “blown away” by Fever 333’s performance at the 2019 ...

10-Year-Old Nandi Bushell Gets Pixies’ Seal of Approval for Her “Where Is My Mind?” Cover: Watch

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-07T15:58:11+00:00“>April 7, 2021 | 11:58am ET 10-year-old multi-instrumentalist and YouTube sensation Nandi Bushell continues to impress the artists she covers. This time around, she’s earned kudos from the Pixies for her loop version of the band’s classic song “Where Is My Mind?” Last year, Nandi earned respect (and a signature guitar) from Tom Morello for her cover of Rage Against the Machine’s “Guerrilla Radio”, as well as props from Metallica’s Kirk Hammett for her rendition of “Enter Sandman”. Of course, she also made headlines for her epic multi-round drum battle with Dave Grohl after challenging him with a cover of Foo Fighters’ “Everlong”. Her 2021 is already off to a big...

The musician and the host primarily talked about her “stream of consciousness” writing approach for the book and her “faith journey as a queer person”. Right before the segment’s end, though, Colbert asked Carlile if she would treat him to a cover of Joni Mitchell, and Carlile happily obliged with an acoustic rendition of “A Case of You”. In a way, this cover song was a multiple-year-long dream for Colbert. Back in 2019, Carlile performed the entirety of Mitchell’s iconic 1971 album Blue at the Disney ...

Robert Fripp and Toyah Celebrate Easter Sunday with Iron Maiden’s “The Number of the Beast”: Watch

Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox are celebrating Easter Sunday in a devilish way. For their latest “Sunday Lunch” performance, they take on the Iron Maiden classic “The Number of the Beast”. Leave it to the quirky married couple to pay homage to the devil on the day Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The pair are once again joined by a mysterious guitarist, as they were last week with their performance of ZZ Top’s “Gimme All Your Lovin’”. Looking like a naughty Easter Bunny, Toyah holds three carrots in her hand as she sings the metal opus. At one point she impressively holds a note for 10 seconds, giving Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson a run for his money. “The Number of the Beast” is the title track to Maiden’s third album, and their first with Dickinson. It’s consi...

Waxahatchee Releases Anniversary Reissue of Saint Cloud: Stream

Listening to them back to back, it’s easy to understand...

Robert Fripp and Toyah Slice Their Way Through ZZ Top’s “Gimme All Your Lovin’”: Watch

Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox continue their “Sunday Lunch” quarantine series with a slice of the ZZ Top hit “Gimme All Your Lovin’”. This time around, the couple is joined by a mysterious second guitarist and two pairs of scissors. In both a musical and visual tribute to ZZ Top, King Crimson founder Fripp and the mystery guitarist are sporting hats and super-long beards in honor of the legendary Texas rock act’s Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill. Toyah, meanwhile, looks like a burlesque cross between Sweeney Todd and Edward Scissorshands (both played by Johnny Depp), with her eyelashes conjuring up images of Malcolm McDowell’s sociopathic Alex in A Clockwork Orange. Not to mention, she’s wearing a top that more than rivals the see-through number she wore in the couple’s viral performanc...

Paul McCartney and Beck have released “Find My Way”, a new single from McCartney’s upcoming McCartney III Imagined album. Stream the visualizer video below. The cover transforms the whimsical classic rock song into a disco-funk tune and finds Beck having a bit of fun with a vocoder. “You never used to be afraid of days like these / But now you’re overwhelmed by your anxieties,” he sings on the chorus. “Let me help you out, let me be your guide / I can help you reach the love you feel inside.” “Find My Way” is the opening track from McCartney’s new album, which features artists like St. Vincent, Phoebe Bridgers, Anderson .Paak, Damon Albarn, and Blood Orange covering and/or reimagining a particular track from McCartney III, which The Beatles bassist originally released in December 2020...

Robert Fripp and Toyah Deal Out Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades”: Watch

The married couple once again deliver a frisky take on a legendary rock tune, with Toyah making a deck of cards rain as she sings and dances in a French maid’s outfit — all as a high-powered fan blows her hair back. King Crimson founder Fripp, meanwhile, remains steady as ever, as he delivers the iconic “Ace of Spades” riff. Fripp rose up the ranks of the UK music scene around the same time as late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. Fripp formed King Crimson in 1968, while Lemmy played in the band The Rockin’ Vickers in the mid to late 60s before becoming a roadie for the Jimi Hendrix Experience and eventually joining Hawkwind in 1971. Warpaint Cover “Paralysed” for Gang of Four Tribute Album: Stream

As previously announced, Gang of Four co-founder Andy Gill was working on a retrospective of the band’s album  Entertainment! before he tragically passed away last year. To carry on his work, Gill’s widow Catherine Mayer organized an impressive tribute album in his honor featuring cover songs by a wide range of artists. Today, she’s sharing one of her favorite cuts: “Paralysed” as played by Warpaint. For their contribution to The Problem of Leisure: A Celebration of Andy Gill and Gang of Four, Warpaint use their trademark take on atmospheric pop to give “Paralysed” a haunting vocal performance, speckled guitar work, and one slinky bass line. Warpaint’s bassist, Jenny Lee, produced the track, which may explain why it has a similar feel to her solo album right on!. In a press release, L...
