Coventry vs Stoke live stream: Championship preview, kick off time and team news

Coventry vs Stoke City at the Ricoh Arena is one of the crunch Championship games scheduled for later this evening. The Sky Blues are currently 10th in the table, one point behind tonight’s opponent, Stoke City, and with a game in hand. A win for Mark Robins’ side this evening would see Coventry leapfrog the Potters and Nottingham Forest into 8th position. Furthermore, should the out-of-form Sky Blues then go on to win the two games in hand they have on the majority of the chasing pack for the playoffs, Coventry fans could see their side go as high as 5th in the league and in with a genuine chance of a return to top-flight football. QPR and Birmingham amongst the dark horses in the Championship

There are usually six teams expected to challenge for promotion at the beginning of the Championship season – the three teams who have just been relegated from the Premier League, and the three who missed out on promotion through the play-offs. Of course, it’s not always the relegated sides and play-off teams who contest for promotion. Every season, there are usually a few sides who climb from mid-table obscurity and get themselves in the frame for the top spots. Dark Horses Queens Park Rangers are one of the sides gaining some attention. They finished in ninth place last campaign, but that doesn’t tell the full story. Their first half of the season was a bit of a nightmare, and they found themselves in a relegation battle. But this all changed with the arrivals of Charlie Austin, Sam Fiel...

Fulham and West Brom stars tipped to shine in the Championship

While the ultimate goal of the Championship season is promotion to the Premier League, the Golden Boot race is always an interesting sub-plot. Expect this season to be no different, with a number of proven goalscorers looking to make their mark once again. The current leading candidate appears to be Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, and it’s not particularly difficult to see why. He is the only player in the second tier who already has a Championship Golden Boot to his name, having hit 26 back in the 2019/20 season. Mitrovic has a fantastic record in the Championship Last season wasn’t an easy one for the Serbian, scoring just three league goals in 27 outings. However, his record in the Championship with Fulham is nothing short of excellent, bagging 36 in 57 for the Whites. The most likely to ...

Derby send Sheffield Wednesday down, Hammers target bags second successive treble

Derby County narrowly avoided relegation on a dramatic final day in the Championship. The Rams twice came from behind to secure a 3-3 draw against Sheffield Wednesday at Pride Park to escape the drop at the expense of their opponents. Martyn Waghorn (2) and Patrick Roberts were on target for Derby, while Sam Hutchinson, Callum Paterson and Julian Borner replied for the visitors. Rotherham United were on course to survive after Lewis Wing put them ahead at Cardiff City, but Marlon Pack’s late strike sent them tumbling back into League One after just one season. Wycombe Wanderers also made an immediate return to the third tier despite recording a 3-0 victory at Middlesbrough – Fred Onyedinma, Garath McCleary and Jason McCarthy got the goals. At the other end of the table, the line-up for the...

Premier League set to reject requests to postpone games due to Covid outbreaks

The 2020/21 season is set to begin this weekend with the division’s authorities determined to finish the rescheduled and congested campaign on time ahead of next summer’s European Championships, with clubs having been informed that fixtures will need to be fulfilled even in the event of significant coronavirus outbreaks amongst top-flight squads. Dimitar Evtimov claims Nottingham Forest will ‘regret’ selling 23-year-old

Dimitar Evtimov has warned Nottingham Forest on Twitter that they will regret selling Tyler Walker to Coventry City. As reported by BBC Sport, Walker has joined Coventry from Forest in the summer transfer window. Coventry will play in the Championship next season after winning promotion from League One at the end of the 2019-20 campaign. Walker has signed for the Sky Blues on a three-year contract and will be looking to lead their line in 2020-21 and beyond. The 23-year-old striker came through the Forest youth system, but the youngster could not establish himself in the first team. The former England Under-20 international spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Mansfield Town and the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Lincoln City. Evtimov played with Walker at Forest, with the goalkeeper having be...

Relegated Premier League sides get fixtures as 2020-21 Championship schedule released

Bournemouth will start life back in the Championship at home to Blackburn Rovers, while Watford host Middlesbrough and Norwich City travel to Huddersfield Town. The Cherries were relegated after a five-year stay in the Premier League, while Watford and Norwich were also demoted in a top-flight campaign that was disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. That halt means the new Championship season starts on September 12, with beaten play-off finalists Brentford travelling to Birmingham City on the opening day, while south Wales rivals Cardiff City and Swansea City – who also made the top six – host Sheffield Wednesday and visit Preston North End respectively. Wycombe Wanderers – playing in the second tier for the first time – welcome fellow new boys Rotherham United for their first game, while ...
