“Creative synergies are vital for cities to survive, and our arts and cultural industries have been shut down all across the country, taking a terrible toll on workers and the economy,” said Cuomo in a release. “We want to be aggressive with reopening the State and getting our economy back on track, and NY PopsUp will be an important bridge to the broader reopening of our world-class performance venues and institutions. New York has been a leader throughout this entire pandemic, and we will lead once again with bringing back the arts.” The programming for NY PopsUp will be curated by the interdisciplinary artist Zack Winokur, in partnership with a council of artistic advisors who represent the diversity of New York’s dynamic performing arts scene. The hundreds of fr...
About 200 people have been arrested, fined or incarcerated for violating safety protocols as the joint team of security agencies, mobile courts and COVID-19 marshals continue to sensitize and enforce safety protocols in the state. This was announced in Monday by the Kano state commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, while addressing newsmen. “Of the total figure of the violators, 102 were fined N5,000 each, while 25 others have been remanded in prison by the 21 Mobile Courts set up to deal with non-compliance to safety protocols which had been identified as a huge challenge to curbing the spread of the virus. “The enforcement measure became necessary to preserve public safety and ensure full compliance with the Coronavirus prevention protocols, particularly the use of a face ma...
America: the land of the free to not give a damn about holding each other accountable. In more evidence that this is a country that not only can’t have nice things but doesn’t even seem to want them, Diplo threw a massive pre-Super Bowl party/super-spreader event in Tampa where he played Morgan Wallen. Just like Tom Brady is still winning rings in 2021, the pandemic is still here. Yet Florida was so excited to host a Super Bowl being played by one of its home teams that it completely ignored that latter fact — that is, more so than usual. The WTR Tampa Pool hosted pre-game events all weekend, with Steve Aoki on Friday and Diplo on Saturday. As can be seen in video obtained by TMZ, COVID-19 precautions were utterly nonexistent for the 2,000-capacity crowds. Clips show almost completely mask...
File Photo Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, His Grace Most Revd. Ignatius Kaigama, on Sunday, said many Nigerians are afraid to accept the COVID-19 vaccine because they believe that the health crisis was being manipulated by some people. Kaigama, who stated this in Abuja during his homily at St. Jude’s Parish Zuba, however, urged Nigerians to disregard insinuations that the vaccine was not medically safe and affordable. He said, “Even though many today will seriously question facts about COVID-19 and fear that there is manipulation by some people, we know that the disease is real. “People very dear to us have died of coronavirus disease. There is no doubt that our world is currently sick, ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic. “The fear today is that the menace of Coronavirus will continue to be w...
When 50 Cent said, “You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub,” apparently he even meant during the middle of a raging plague. On Friday night, the day after over 5,000 US residents died of COVID-19 in a 24-hour period, the veteran rapper and DJ Steve Aoki each hosted massive Super Bowl parties where attendees behaved like it was 2019. According to two separate TMZ reports, 50 Cent’s airport hanger shindig in St. Petersburg and Aoki’s poolside bonanza in Tampa were filled with maskless partygoers who made no effort to social distance or even pretend to acknowledge COVID-19 restrictions. In video posted by TMZ, a maskless Aoki cracks open bottles of champagne and sprays them into the mouths of fans, also maskless, who are giddily dancing at the front of the barrier. Eventual...

The United Arab Emirate, UAE, says passengers from Nigeria can no longer travel through other countries or airports to Dubai. This was made known in a notice by Dubai Airports, the operators of Dubai International Airport. The regulations restricted Nigerian passengers from transiting through other airports. The move comes as the United Kingdom on Friday suspended direct flights between the UAE and the UK as part of measures to curb the spread of the raging coronavirus disease. In a notice sent to travel partners, Dubai Airports said amongst other things, passengers from Nigeria can no longer travel through other countries or airports to Dubai. The notice was titled, ‘Dubai Travel Protocol Update–Travel From Nigeria’. It read, “Kindly be advised that effective from 01 February 2021, the fo...
Encore? For the third time, the Coachella Music and Arts Festival has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Via Billboard, Coachella’s sister country festival Stagecoach Country has also been pushed back. Coachella takes place almost every year in Indio, California. Last year’s event, scheduled for April, was meant to be headlined by Rage Against the Machine, Frank Ocean, Travis Scott, and Lana Del Rey, before the novel coronavirus waylaid those plans. It was optimistically pushed to October, but that idea only lasted until June before the raging pandemic made it shutter once again. In the process, 2020 became the first year without a Coachella in twenty years. Festival organizers hoped to bring it back this year April 9th-11th and 16th-18th. But even that proved overly sanguine, as...
