Northeast elders asks President Buhari to sack service chiefs

The Coalition of North East Elders for Peace and Development, Monday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack his service chiefs, accusing the military of deploying massive strength during the #EndSARS protests in parts of the country, thereby leaving the zone at the mercy of Boko Haram, an Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists. Enugu: Yellow fever cause of ‘strange deaths’ in communities

The Enugu State Government has confirmed that Yellow Fever is the cause of deaths from a reported strange illness in Ette Uno and Umuopu communities of Enugu Ezike town in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of the state. A statement by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi, stated that the disease was confirmed “through verifiable diagnostic tests”. Dr. Obi explained that “Yellow Fever is not a new disease but one of public health importance internationally and in Nigeria” adding that “It is one of the diseases controlled for in the Nigerian set of routine and mass immunizable diseases.” According to him “a suspected case is anyone with a sudden onset of fever who develops jaundice (yellowness of the eyes) within 14 days it is verifiable by diagnostic tests”. Lagos government lifts curfew

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has lifted the curfew he imposed on the state after the #endsars protest was hijacked by looters and hoodlums. Lagos residents are now free to go about their businesses without any restriction or hindrance. Kano restates commitment to sanitation, hygiene

The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to the improvement of sanitation and hygiene for sustainable development in the state. Dr Kabiru Getso, the state’s Commissioner for Environment, stated this while inspecting the monthly sanitation on Saturday in Kano. Getso said that the state government had introduced the monthly exercise to mobilise residents’ participation in waste and drain clearance in their communities. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the immediate mobilisation of all police operational resources to bring an end to the wanton violence, killings, looting and destruction of public and private property across the country. The Federal Government has said help was on the way for flood victims in Kaduna, following plans to build flood walls around River Kaduna to protect the people and their properties. Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State says Boko Haram insurgents have started recruiting children in the state due to the increase in unemployment. Police arrest Rivers council chair over ‘link’ with slain gang leader

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested the Chairman of Gokana Local Government Chairman, Honourable Paul Vidag Kobani, over the alleged link with the late notorious leader of a criminal gang which operated in the Ogoni communities of the State, Honest Diigbara, aka Boboski. Boboski, who had N30 million ransom on his head was arrested by the Police over weekend. Douye Diri of Bayelsa has called on the Rivers State government to show understanding in order to amicably resolve the dispute between Oluasiri Clan in Bayelsa and their Kalabari neighbours in Rivers. Nigerian Army’s Operation Sahel Sanity extended by three months

The Nigeria Army has extended Operation Sahel Sanity, which is fighting banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling in the North West, to December. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, made the disclosure at a press conference at the Army Supper Camp 4, Faskari, Katsina, on Saturday.
