Police arrest two with truckload of mattresses meant for flood victims in Bayelsa
The police in Bayelsa State have arrested two suspects with a truckload of mattresses allegedly meant for flood victims. The mattresses, it was learned, were warehoused in an undisclosed location in Yenagoa the state capital when the suspect’s break-in and stole the mattresses. Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) in the state had raised alarm over the stolen mattresses which prompted the police to react. Chidiebere Onyia, a reporter with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), who was abducted on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by gunmen, has regained her freedom. The nursing mother was said to have been released by her abductors in the early hours of Sunday. Newsmen reports that Mrs Onyia was abducted on Tuesday evening at Woji while driving home after work. The Police in Osun has warned against unlawful gathering or blocking of free-flow of traffic in the state. Officers Ogun Police Command have arrested an armed robbery suspect, Adeolu Bankole, operating in Ayetoro area of the state with a stolen uniform of an officer of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps. Official: NDLEA seizes N1.4 billion worth of cannabis in Edo
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State said it has uncovered suspected cannabis warehouses in Ukpuje forest in Owan West Local Government Area of the state. Buba Wakawa, the state commander of the agency, announced this at a news conference on Saturday in Benin City. Mr Wakawa said the village had four large warehouses with 233,778 kilogrammes of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis. The substance, according to him, has an estimated street value of more than N1.4 billion. Seven people believed to be running the cannabis trafficking syndicate have been apprehended, he said. “This is the largest single concentration of cannabis discovered by the command,” he added. The Police Command in Ekiti State on Wednesday said there was no influx of herdsmen forests in the state from Ondo State forest reserves as being reported in the media. The Police in Benue on Sunday said a robbery suspect was set ablaze by an angry mob while attempting to steal a motorcycle in Makurdi.
