Just in time for Halloween, David S. Pumpkins made his long-awaited return to Saturday Night Live. Tom Hanks made a surprise appearance on last night’s episode of SNL (Oct. 29th) to reprise the beloved character alongside his skeletal comrades played by Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan. (SNL alum Moynihan also appeared earlier in the episode to reprise his Drunk Uncle character). Hanks previously portrayed David S. Pumpkins twice during SNL’s 42nd season in 2016. The success of the character led SNL to create an animated Halloween special that aired in 2017. However, because of Moynihan’s departure from the show following Season 43, there had not been another opportunity for Hanks to reprise the character — until last night. Just when Tim Allen’s Scott Calvin thought he was out, he gets reined back in. That’s the premise of his new TV series The Santa Clauses, which is set to debut on Disney+ in less than a month. Ahead of its premiere, the streamer has shared another trailer offering a look at the six-episode series. The clip depicts Allen’s character adjusting to life as a normal person after retiring from his role as Santa Claus. “For the first time, I’m going to spend Christmas with my family,” he tells his wife (Elizabeth Mitchell). Predictably, the transition to Calvin’s successor isn’t as smooth as he had hoped. “New Santa is destroying Christmas spirit,” says one of the elves when they sound the alarm at the North Pole. “When the light goes out, it could be the end of Christmas.” Advertisement Rel...
When Saturday Night Live returned for Season 48 this fall, it was missing Melissa Villaseñor, who had been with the show since 2016 — her best bits showcasing her jaw-dropping impressions and sharp silly characters. For those missing her unique voice, though, there’s Whoops . . . I’m Awesome, her new book featuring stories about her life alongside her own original artwork and fun activities for adults (get your copy here). In the book, Villaseñor refers to her job as an SNL cast member in the present tense, because she finished writing the book this spring but made the decision to leave the show this summer. But, she says, “all these things were created during that time there. So I think it makes sense that it’s still present.” When it comes to the decision to leave the show, Villaseñor sa...

Bill Murray doesn’t exactly have a great reputation right now, and to add to the fire, Rob Schneider has shared his own experience with the rather difficult comedian. Appearing on SiriusXM’s Jim Norton & Sam Roberts, the Saturday Night Live alum recalled that Murray — himself a former Not Ready for Prime Time Player — really didn’t jibe with Schneider or castmates like Chris Farley and Adam Sandler. Initially discussing a project he declined to name, Schneider described a filmmaker warning the crew that “‘Bill Murray is gonna come, he’s gonna change the… dialogue. He’s gonna change things, and it’s gonna be great, but you don’t know who you’re gonna get. Which Bill Murray you’re gonna get. The nice Bill Murray? Or you’re gonna get the tough Bill Murray?’” “He’s super nic...
The Naked Gun will return with a new film, and in place of Leslie Nielsen, Liam Neeson will star — perhaps as the son of Nielsen’s character Frank Derbin. As Deadline reports, Dan Gregor and Doug Mand will pen the new Naked Gun script, while The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer will direct and executive produce. Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins are producing the film through their company Fuzzy Door. Based on the crime spoof series Police Squad!, The Naked Gun franchise began in 1988 with the film From the Files of Police Squad! Nielsen starred in the original film as Det. Sgt. Frank Derbin, a lovable police officer who didn’t exactly have the brains for the job. Nielsen went on to star in two sequels, 1991’s The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear a...
The Ghost of Christmas Present regrets his choice of Scrooge in the first teaser trailer for the holiday musical, Spirited. Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds star in this twist on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, which arrives in theaters November 11th and streams on Apple TV+ beginning November 18th. Ferrell stars as Ghost of Christmas Present, who every year sets out to reform one dark soul with the help of two spectral comrades. But everything flips when he meets Clint Briggs (Reynolds), and suddenly this old Christmas Present is forced to reexamine his past and wrestle with his future. The first trailer is a mix of tight musical choreography and loose comical riffs. A tap sequence leaves both leads wondering how the other knew the moves, and sweeping set piece dances are...
Eric André and fellow comedian Clayton English have filed a lawsuit against the police program at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport claiming they violate the constitutional rights of passengers — particularly Black passengers. According to The Associated Press, the suit filed Tuesday (October 11th) alleges that André and English were racially profiled and illegally stopped while boarding a flight, as part of the police program’s effort to combat drug trafficking. Their lawyers claim that Clayton County police officers and investigators from the county district attorney’s office selectively stop passengers in the jet bridges while boarding, interrogate them, inspect their boarding pass and ID, and sometimes search their luggage before allowing the passengers to board.
