Adam Sandler Stopped Reading Reviews After Reaction to Billy Madison

Adam Sandler is a beloved comedian now, but when he first broke out of the Saturday Night Live bubble with Billy Madison, the first film he ever co-wrote, he didn’t receive a particularly warm welcome from critics. Since then, the actor says he hasn’t read a review for any one of his films. “When I was 17 and I got into this, I didn’t think about critics … I didn’t even realize that stuff was coming. I just thought you made movies, people go see it,” Sandler said in a recent conversation for Netflix (via EW). “When Billy Madison came out, me and my friend who wrote it, we were just like, ‘Oh yeah, they’re going to write about this in New York!’ We grew up reading the papers, we were going to NYU. And then we read the first one and we were like, ‘Oh my god, what happened? The...

Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard Star in Trailer for Jesse Eisenberg’s When You Finish Saving the World: Watch

Jesse Eisenberg has written and directed his first feature film, When You Finish Saving the World. The coming-of-age comedy-drama stars Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard as a mother and son caught up in complicated times, and a trailer for the project is out now. In When You Finish Saving the World, Evelyn (Moore) is the do-gooder mom to Ziggy (Wolfhard), a fuckboy more interested in Internet fame than solving the world’s problems. The trailer, however, shows the characters shift toward each other’s interests — particularly when Evelyn meets a sensitive teenage boy at her job and Ziggy develops a crush on a “brilliant and politically conscious young woman at his high school,” as a press release puts it. “When you were a little boy, you were my little ally,” Moore says in the ...

David Hyde Pierce Won’t Reprise Niles in Frasier Reboot

David Hyde Pierce will not be joining Kelsey Grammer in the Frasier reboot, but Grammer says our beloved psychiatrist will have a good time even without his little brother. “David basically decided he wasn’t really interested in repeating the performance of Niles,” Grammer told People. Fortunately, however, the setback forced the Frasier writers to think up a more interesting plot for its main character than a stale cast reunion. “In a very funny way, it just took us to a new place, which was what we originally wanted to do anyway, which was a Frasier third act,” Grammer said. “It’s an entirely new life for him.” Frasier ran for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004. Once the sitcom ended, Hyde Pierce went on to work in theater, and most recently appeared in the HBO Max series&n...

Sinbad’s family have provided new details on the comedian’s recovery after suffering from a stroke in 2020. On a newly launched website to support his rehabilitation, they shared that he has “made significant progress beyond what anyone expected, but there are still miles to go.” In a detailed account, the family confirmed that Sinbad – née David Adkins – experienced an ischemic stroke on October 25th, 2020 due to a blood clot that had traveled from his heart to his brain. Behold Owen Wilson’s Happy Little Trees in First Look at Paint

IFC films has today shared the first look at Owen Wilson in Paint, in which the actor is equipped with with sky-high curls, a well-loved palette, and a stunning canvas full of happy little trees. You’re thinking, “this is certainly a Bob Ross biopic.” Alas, the funnyman isn’t playing the late great PBS personality, but a different, fictional public television artist. Paint is an upcoming comedy film hailing from writer-director Brit McAdams, and in a sort of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood style, it seems to put a satirical twist on Ross’ legacy. Owen’s iteration of the painter is named Carl Nargle, a local favorite public TV personality in Vermont famed for his distinctive perm and encouraging mantras. Ross’ career encountered very few speedbumps; his PBS show The Joy of Painting ...

How Weird: The Al Yankovic Story Landed Those Incredible Cameos

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is packed with more cameos than you can count on first viewing, as the “Weird” Al Yankovic-style approach to creating a musical biopic (i.e. — a parody of biopics) was able to lean heavily on the iconic musician’s address book to bring in big names. “All of the ridiculously famous legends came from Weird Al, but it was really fun, going out to all those people,” director Eric Appel tells Consequence. “It was Al personally reaching out to all of them, just showing me this list and saying ‘Hey, here’s all these people that are on my holiday card list — pick from them, I can call them personally.” Appel’s initial engagement with Yankovic began in 2013, when he made a trailer version of Weird as a Funny or Die exclusive — leaning hard into the tropes of dark and gr...

Saturday Night Live Mocks Kanye West With Skechers Sketch: Watch

The comedy show addressed West’s antisemitism-fueled downfall with a sketch from the point of view of Skechers, a company that finally earned some clout when it refused to work with the rapper. If you’ve forgotten, Kanye approached Skechers about a business partnership after both adidas and Gap ended their respective relationships with him following a slew of antisemitic comments. Skechers, of course, didn’t want to be associated with West either, and he was escorted out of the company’s corporate headquarters. In the new sketch, SNL made a fake Skechers commercial in which the c...
