As concerts begin to make their return, ZHU is leading the charge in bringing the live dance music scene back to a semblance of normalcy. On Monday, May 3rd, the Grammy-nominated electronic artist brought his A-game to the first of six DREAMROCKS shows at Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre. And on the sixth and final night ZHU—along with his band—debuted a flawless, unreleased remix of Coldplay‘s new single “Higher Power.” The exceptional rendition offers the perfect compliment to the original track, wherein ZHU infuses the hypnotic house flair he so effortlessly produced in his latest album, DREAMLAND 2021. EDM.com has reached out to ZHU’s team for more details on the remix, but they were not able to offer more information, such as a release date. ...
Last month, Coldplay began teasing a new project called “Alien Radio” with a series of mysterious symbols. Within hours, the code was cracked by fans and internet sleuths, who discovered that the band would be releasing a song called “Higher Power” on May 7. Now that it’s May 7 in certain parts of the world, the Max Martin-produced track has been released, and it’s out of this world (in a literal sense). Rather than dropping a simple lyric video or clips from quarantine, the Goop divorcee and crew partnered with French ESA astronaut (and current mission commander on the International Space Station) Thomas Pesquet to broadcast a special performance of the song from space itself. The recorded performance (appropriately titled “Extraterrestrial Transmission”) comes complete with hol...
Although the organizers of Glastonbury decided to pull the plug on the iconic music festival’s 2021 edition, all hope is not lost. A cryptic message was shared earlier this week on the official Glastonbury Festival Twitter account showing the festival’s Stone Circle going in and out of illumination, with the hashtag #LiveAtWorthyFarm flashed across the screen. Fans didn’t have to wait long to uncover what the mysterious message entailed. Organizers have announced “Live At Worthy Farm,” be a global streaming event that on Saturday, May 22nd, 2021. The ticketed event will feature performances from a bevy of superstars, including Coldplay, Gorillaz‘s Damon Albarn, HAIM, Idles, Jorja Smith, Kano, Michael Kiwanuka, and Wolf Alice, al...
If Brittany Howard’s five Grammy nods weren’t enough proof of how massive her last year has been, her latest performance with Coldplay’s Chris Martin should do it. The Alabama Shakes leader and 2021 nominee shared a heartfelt performance of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” originally written by Rodgers and Hammerstein and popularized by Gerry and the Pacemakers to honor singer Gerry Marsden alongside Martin at Sunday’s awards. Martin took on the keys as Howard belted powerfully to celebrate the lives we lost. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,”width”:”480″,”height”:”270″,”playlist”:”10315″,...
While Nandi Bushell awaits Dave Grohl’s response in their ongoing “drum battle,” the young British musician switched gears and added her twist to Coldplay’s 2005 tune “Fix You.” “I hope this will bring a #smile to your face today. We always have #music! I really like this song called #fixyou by @Coldplay . The buildup at the end really get me flowing! With #love and #respect to you all, have an #awesome day ❤️🙏🏽✊🏽🤟🏽🥁👧🏽#coldplay #chrismartin #willchampion,” the 10-year-old British musician captioned the video. Aside from her impeccable drumming on the instrumental break on the track, she decked out her drumkit with neon tape, brought out the black light and gave viewers not just a sonic experience but a vis...
The year 2000 looms large in pop culture history: the Y2k non-scare, the Seinfeld “Newmannium” episode, the “In the Year 2000″ sketch from Conan O’Brien’s original late-night show, the Hulu series PEN15. And just like, say, the grunge-defined 1991, the year immediately conjures specific sounds: gleaming teen-pop, earnest radio rock, the Neptunes and Timbaland. There’s never a bad time to revisit this music. But in the middle of a pandemic, with America on the verge of collapse, it feels extra comforting — a blast of nostalgia for a time when you could safely exit your home, visit your local mall’s Sam Goody and buy Mystikal’s “Shake Ya Ass” CD single. For this list, our only criteria was that the songs appear on albums or soundtracks released in 2000. Here we go. 50. Papa Roach, “Last Reso...
We’re familiar with Coldplay’s iconic “Yellow” music video: Chris Martin walking along an abandoned beach in full rain gear, soaked to the core as the wind whips his face. But apparently that was not the original plan. On Saturday, the band shared never before seen footage from the shoot on TikTok, in which Martin is dry, barefoot, and donning a red long sleeved shirt sans rain jacket. The short clip is scattered with fun facts about the making of the video. “Take 1 of the Yellow video (we’ve never shown this before),” the first message reads. “There were loads of extras in this version” “But it rained all day so we sent them home at 4pm,” it continues. “Chris grabbed the cameraman and said ‘let’s just walk down the beach’” “Worked out well in the end!” @coldplayTake 1 of the Yellow v...
On Friday, the Global Citizen livestream series Together At Home came full circle. Chris Martin, who played the first virtual show in March, closed out the series with a nearly 30 minute set of Coldplay classics. Martin began the acoustic performance on a high note, recruiting two young violinists to virtually play “Viva La Vida” from an iPad while he sang. The set also included hits like “Til Kingdom Come,” “Magic,” “God Put a Smile Upon Your Face,” “In My Place,” and “Fix You,” as the singer moved from acoustic guitar to piano. Watch the final Together At Home performance below. The streaming series is a partnership between World Health Organization and Global Citizen. Aside from intimate performances like Martin’s, Together At Home also put together a huge benefit concert cura...
