And there you have it. The Weeknd will be joining Swedish House Mafia next Sunday at Coachella. The combination will replace Kanye West, who dropped out earlier this week. Coachella is teasing it as a party/after-party. Probably that it will be a Weeknd set followed by a late Swedish House Mafia set. That would be similar to 2012 when the Swedish trio went on after the Black Keys’ headlining set. Either way, the festival moved fast and enlisted a headliner that will appeal to its audience. A lot of names were floating earlier in the week, but this seems like the most logical conclusion considering The Weeknd’s stadium headliner stature and his history with the festival. The festival announced the news in a tweet on Wednesday morning. The Party & The After Party pic.twitter.com/8gT2bF3x...
A day after winning a pair of Grammys for Donda, Kanye West has pulled out of his much-anticipated Coachella headlining slot. TMZ was the first outlet to report the news of Kanye’s withdrawal. A source confirmed to Variety that West is no longer playing as well. SPIN has reached out to reps for both West and Coachella for comment on the situation. A few months ago, West had it out with co-headliner Billie Eilish over a comment the alt-pop star made about Travis Scott. The Houston-based rapper was going to perform with West (so he said) at Coachella. The news caps a tumultuous few months for West. In addition to battling Eilish, he’s taken shots at his ex, Kim Kardashian, her new boyfriend Pete Davidson among others. Coachella will take place April 15-17 and April 22-24 at the Emp...
The full Coachella 2022 lineup has arrived. After weeks and months (perhaps even longer?) of speculation, this year’s Coachella lineup has finally arrived. Over the past few weeks, information trickled out that Billie Eilish and Kanye West (or Ye) would headline. They’re replacing Travis Scott (for somewhat obvious reasons) and Rage Against the Machine, respectively. Harry Styles is the third headliner, which Billboard reported on Wednesday morning. Swedish House Mafia, which was confirmed last year, are also billed in a top slot. Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Phoebe Bridgers, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Flume, Run the Jewels, Vince Staples also feature. Coachella’s lineup is usually announced the first week of January. But, with the moving target that is COVID and the lineup availabilities, the lineup took place today. I...
Kanye West — who now goes by Ye — has been tapped to headline Sunday night at this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and might also stage a second Sunday Service performance a source tells Billboard. Billie Eilish is also in talks to headline the event — likely Friday — sources confirms. Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news The headliner news comes after a chaotic 48 hours for festival organizer Goldenvoice as it moves artists in and out of the event’s three headliner slots, originally set for the 2020 iteration that was postponed several times during the pandemic. Billboard has confirmed that previous headliners Travis Scott and Rage Against the Machine will no longer headline the 2022 edition of the festival after originally bei...
Lollapalooza has come and gone and with that, the future of festivals will be touch and go for the immediate future. However, for those hoping to know more about what’s going to happen with Coachella, the granddaddy of all American festivals, Goldenvoice boss Paul Tollett revealed some news. In a rare interview with the Los Angeles Times, Tollett revealed that Coachella 2020 headliners Travis Scott and Rage Against the Machine will return in 2022, while Frank Ocean will headline the 2023 edition due to scheduling issues. A third headliner for 2022 will be announced at a latter date, Tollett said. His reasoning for revealing the headliners so early (usually Coachella announces its lineup in early January the year of the festival)? Tollett said it was to offer fans some reassurance after wha...
