And there you have it. The Weeknd will be joining Swedish House Mafia next Sunday at Coachella. The combination will replace Kanye West, who dropped out earlier this week. Coachella is teasing it as a party/after-party. Probably that it will be a Weeknd set followed by a late Swedish House Mafia set. That would be similar to 2012 when the Swedish trio went on after the Black Keys’ headlining set. Either way, the festival moved fast and enlisted a headliner that will appeal to its audience. A lot of names were floating earlier in the week, but this seems like the most logical conclusion considering The Weeknd’s stadium headliner stature and his history with the festival. Kanye West Won’t Perform at Coachella (Report)
A day after winning a pair of Grammys for Donda, Kanye West has pulled out of his much-anticipated Coachella headlining slot. TMZ was the first outlet to report the news of Kanye’s withdrawal. A source confirmed to Variety that West is no longer playing as well. SPIN has reached out to reps for both West and Coachella for comment on the situation. A few months ago, West had it out with co-headliner Billie Eilish over a comment the alt-pop star made about Travis Scott. After Billboard reported the headliners earlier Wednesday (Jan. 12), the official Goldenvoice poster confirms that Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Ye are headlining each day, while Swedish House Mafia will be “returning to the desert” on an undisclosed day. However, for those hoping to know more about what’s going to happen with Coachella, the granddaddy of all American festivals, Goldenvoice boss Paul Tollett revealed some news.
