Human Remains From 1982 Revealed To Be O’Jays Songwriter & Guitarist Frank Little Jr.

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Peter Dazeley / Getty The remains of a man discovered almost 40 years ago stood as a mystery but the identity was recently revealed. The remains of Frank Little Jr., who was affiliated with The O’Jays, were positively identified via DNA and other research, giving the family a small measure of closure. Local outlet Akron Beacon Journal reports that Little’s identity was uncovered with the help of investigators after the remains were first discovered in February 1982 in Twinsburg, Ohio, a city nestled between Akron and Cleveland. In the 1960s, Little worked alongside the legendary R&B band The O’Jays as a songwriter and backing guitarist. Previous attempts to link an identity to the remains found in a garbage bag behind a Twinsburg machine shop were fru...

US workers enticed with bonuses, time off to get coronavirus vaccine

As Covid-19 vaccination drives get into gear across the United States, some businesses are offering transportation, paid time off and bonuses of up to $500 to encourage workers to get the jab. Labor-intensive industries like slaughterhouses, supermarkets, and farms, whose workers are at higher risk of contracting the virus, have taken the lead, with several large grocery chains offering two to four hours of paid leave time for employees to get vaccinated. “Providing accommodations so employees can receive this critical vaccine is one more way we can support them and eliminate the need to choose between earning their wages and protecting their well-being,” Jason Hart, CEO of supermarket chain Aldi, said in January. Others have taken advantage of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention re...

Cleveland Still Rocks

Cleveland’s Coventry Village, a neighborhood lined with vintage shops, restaurants and bars was once the hippest area in the city. Located in leafy Cleveland Heights on the city’s east side, the once-bustling area has been quiet since the pandemic hit. Few more so than one of the area’s few constants: independent music venue The Grog Shop. Nestled between a movie theater and coffee shop, The Grog Shop’s exterior makes you think you’re entering a restaurant or café, not one of the best concert venues in the Midwest. It can go toe-to-toe with such other regional tastemaking venues as the Empty Bottle in Chicago and Magic Stick in Detroit. Yet once the door swings open and you pass security, it just feels like a music oasis. Dimly lit with sticky floors and a barely-above-ground sta...

His friend and former co-worker Brandon Weems, Cleveland Cavaliers Director of Scouting, suffered a tragic loss earlier this week. On Monday, November 2 his sister Ericka Weems was found dead with a gunshot to her head in Akron, Ohio. The 18 time all star took to Twitter to bring attention to the dreadful violation. “AKRON OHIO!! My brother’s sister was murdered this past weekend in her home! US election: Republicans hold back Democrats, narrowing path to Senate control

The battle for power in the Senate tightened into Wednesday as Democrats picked up a seat in Colorado, but suffered a setback in Alabama, and Republicans held their own in high-profile races in South Carolina, Iowa, Texas and Kansas, dramatically narrowing the political map. Republicans fought to retain their Senate majority by turning back a surge of Democrats challenging allies of President Donald Trump, and the Democrats’ various paths to seizing control were growing more limited. With several contests still too early to call, and one Georgia race heading to a January runoff, the final verdict is expected to drag on. Democrats gained a seat when ex-Gov. John Hickenlooper ousted GOP Sen. Cory Gardner in Colorado, a must-win to flip the Senate, but couldn’t hold on in Alabama, where forme...

Polls start to close in tense US presidential election

Polls in US battleground states began to close on Tuesday, inching the contest between President Donald Trump and Joe Biden to its nail-biting conclusion, following a race fought in unprecedented conditions of a global pandemic and the most deeply divided electorate in decades. At 7:00 pm (0000 GMT), voting ended in Indiana, Kentucky, South Carolina, Virginia, Vermont, and also Georgia, a formerly rock-solid Republican state that Biden’s Democrats hope to flip. CNN and NBC already projected a win for Trump in Indiana. Parts of Florida — an even bigger electoral prize that routinely sees knife-edge elections — were also closing at 7:00 pm. Polls in the rest of the state and also in Pennsylvania, another ground zero in US presidential contests, were closing at 8:00 pm (0100 GMT). What was no...

Kipp Stone Puts East Cleveland On His Back With ‘HOMME’ Mixtape

Source: Kipp Stone / Kipp Stone Kipp Stone is among a long lineage of Hip-Hop acts from Cleveland that have an uncanny ability for melody, flow, and gritty realism. The tradition continues with the Ohio talent releasing his second full-length in HOMMÈ, which has him putting East Cleveland squarely on his capable back. Across 13 tracks, the star is undoubtedly Kipp, whose baritone-tinged vocals are never out of pocket and the production is an enhancement instead of being a shield, using his effective delivery to provoke the listener to actually see what he’s saying versus rhyming for the sheer hell of it. Early standouts include “Pedestal,” followed by the comically-titled “People Be Trash,” with the latter song not humorous at all and a bit of an autobiographical tale of his sheer will to ...

Gold rises on renewed US stimulus hope, dollar falls

Spot gold rose 0.3 percent to $1,910.56 an ounce at 3:37pm, New York time, after falling as much as 0.5 percent. Gold rose on renewed optimism for a preelection aid package in the U.S., while the dollar fell to a one-week low. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said a bill for a compromise stimulus package is being written as she awaits a key phone call with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said his chamber would take up a comprehensive coronavirus package if an accord is struck. The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index headed for the third straight decline. Pelosi said in a Bloomberg Television interview that while there are areas where more work is required to get a compromise, she was pleased with the Trump administration’s latest position on coronavirus testing ...

Floating Movie Theaters Coming to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and More US Cities

Parisians were treated to a floating movie theater adventure this past weekend. Apparently it went swimmingly because now a different company, Beyond Cinema, is bringing a similar idea to America. Starting this September, Beyond Cinema will launch 12 to 24 mini boats — each of which can hold upwards of eight people — in US cities. Movies will be projected on a large screen outdoors near the water, and patrons can pay to watch the film in comfort from one of the floating vessels. The Australian entertainment and event company originally found success with their “boat-in” events back during pre-COVID times. Once the current pandemic set in, though, they decided to modify the event to uphold safety measures while still capitalizing on this creative way to keep movie lovers entertained. O...

Family Guy Actor Mike Henry Will No Longer Voice Cleveland

Mike Henry, the longtime voice of Family Guy’s Cleveland, has announced he’ll no longer play the character. “It’s been an honor to play Cleveland on Family Guy for 20 years,” Henry wrote in a tweet posted Friday. “I love this character, but persons of color should play characters of color. Therefore, I will be stepping down from the role.” Henry voiced the character of Cleveland Brown since Family Guy’s premiere in 1999. He also starred in the spin-off series, The Cleveland Show, which ran for four seasons. Henry becomes the third white voice actor this week who’s stepped aside from playing a person of color. Earlier, Jenny Slate announced she would no longer voice Missy on Big Mouth, and Kristen Bell dropped out of playing Molly on Central Park. Family Guy was recently renewed for an...

Presymptomatic coronavirus patients can contaminate environments – study

Coronavirus was detected on several surfaces in hotel rooms where two presymptomatic Chinese students were quarantined before being diagnosed with the disease, according to a study released on Monday. For the study, published in the Emerging Infectious Diseases journal of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), researchers in China examined the hotel rooms of the two students, who returned to China from studying abroad on March 19 and March 20. They did not display any virus symptoms at the time and were transferred to a hotel for 14 days of quarantine. On the morning of the second day in quarantine, they remained presymptomatic but both tested positive for COVID-19 and were hospitalized. About three hours after they tested positive, the researchers sampled various surface...
