‘Metaverse’ a top 3 contender for Oxford’s Word of the Year

The word “Metaverse” is one of three in the running to be crowned the Oxford “Word of the Year” (WOTY) in a competition run by the Oxford University Press (OUP), the publisher of the Oxford English Dictionary. Airtel Africa Signs $124-Million Credit Facility with Citi Bank

Sourced from Comms MEA Airtel Africa, one of Africa’s largest telecom groups with a presence in 14 countries across the continent, today announced the signing of a $125-million revolving credit facility with investment banking group Citi through its branch offices/subsidiaries in sub-Saharan Africa. The telecom says that this facility is in line with its strategy to raise debt in its local operating companies, and will include both local currency and US dollar-denominated debt. The facility has a tenor up to September 2024 and will be used to support Airtel Africa’s operations and investments in four of its subsidiaries. Citi’s digital asset co-heads resign with plans to create crypto startup

Alex Kriete, co-head of digital assets at Citi, announced his resignation from the banking giant after 11 years at the firm on Thursday via LinkedIn. He stated in his post that he intends to devote himself full-time to developing a new cryptocurrency company but provided no additional details at the time. Kriete co-led the digital assets group with Greg Girasole for less than a year since the unit launched in June 2021. Girasole also announced his departure via LinkedIn and together, he and Kriete plan to start their own blockchain-related venture. Seplat issues $650 million oil and gas bond

Seplat Petroleum Development Company, a Nigerian independent oil and gas firm, has issued $650 million in aggregate principal amount of senior notes due in 2026. It is said to be the largest ever Nigerian oil and gas bond issuance. A senior note is a type of bond that must be repaid before most other debts in the event that the issuer declares bankruptcy. It is more secure than other bonds.
