Will Smith appeared on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and reflected on the “horrific night” he slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards, citing a “rage that had been bottled for a really long time.” During the ceremony, Rock joked that Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith looked like “G.I. Jane 2,” an apparent reference to her shaved head. Afterwards Smith took the stage and struck Rock across the face. “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!” he hollered. Moments later he won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in King Richard. “That was a horrific night, as you can imagine,” Smith recounted to Noah. “There’s many nuances and complexities to it, you know. But at the end of the day, I just – I lost it, you know. And I guess what I would say, you just never know wh...

Chris Rock famously became the talk of the 2022 Oscars after Will Smith slapped him on stage, but the comedian isn’t trying to be the talk of next year’s ceremony. In a recent stand-up set, Rock said the Academy asked him to host the 2023 Oscars, but he turned them down. According to the Arizona Republic, Rock told the crowd at a recent gig in Phoenix that returning to the Oscars would be like returning to the scene of a crime, comparing the offer to asking Nicole Brown Simpson to “go back to the restaurant” she ate at before being murdered. Rock also said he was asked to do a Super Bowl commercial in light of the slap, an offer he also refused. Elsewhere in the set, Rock said being slapped by Smith physically hurt, noting that Smith played Muhammed Ali in a movie. “He’s bigger than me,” R...
Chris Rock’s busy year continues: Today, MTV Studios announced that they’ve granted a straight-to-series order for Everybody Still Hates Chris, an animated revival of Rock’s popular oughts sitcom Everybody Hates Chris. Like its predecessor, Everybody Still Hates Chris is largely inspired by Rock’s own memories of growing up as a hapless, dorky teenager from a working-class family in 1980s Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Rock will serve as executive producer of the series alongside showrunner Sanjay Shah, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky, and Ali LeRoi — the latter of whom co-created the original Everybody Hates Chris alongside Rock. With both adult animation and revivals of bygone series having a big moment in TV, there’s certainly a market for Everybody Still Hates Chris. Belov...

Yeah, that shit hurt, motherfucker. But I shook that shit off and went to work the next day. I don’t go to the hospital for a paper cut.” Related Stories Rock is currently touring with Kevin Hart and had not previously said much about the incident. Except at one solo comedy show in Boston right after the Oscars, where he said, “I don’t have a bunch of shit about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before th...
Chris Rock and Kevin Hart began their evening at Madison Square Garden with a rather puzzling bang. In the midst of a slew of controversies, Dave Chappelle was the surprise opener for the co-headlining gig Saturday night (July 23rd). “Had to sneak my way in here,” Chappelle, donning a Nirvana In Utero t-shirt, said after walking onstage to Radiohead’s Karma Police. “Despite what you may have read about in the news, I’m OK and I appreciate the support.” Chappelle’s 22-minute set comes just days after Minneapolis venue First Avenue canceled his show there due to backlash regarding his unyielding habit of transphobic jokes. After being forced to move locations, the comedian evidently took no notes from the criticism: “I can see a transgender hit squad coming from...
