Just three weeks away from the scheduled kickoff of Chicago’s Necropolis Music Festival, organizers have pulled the plug. The Halloween weekend event was set to debut with a big lineup featuring the likes of Alison Wonderland, Adventure Club, Excision and Getter, among others, but its promoter, Auris Presents, have revealed their grand plans are not coming to fruition. Auris is an established Chicago promotional company and the creators of music festivals such as ARC and Heatwave. The organization’s statement was light on details, but says that they ultimately did not feel they could deliver on the experience as promised. “We strive to put out the best experience possible for our fans, unfortunately we no longer feel that we can accomplish ...

In Chicago, Labor Day Weekend is synonymous with North Coast. One of the staples of the city’s electronic music festival scene, it has built a reputation not only for its outstanding lineups, but for crafting a holistic experience meant to take festival-goers—affectionately nicknamed “Coasties”—on a technicolor journey. As you pass through the gates and take everything in—the sights, sounds, smells and palpable atmosphere—for the first time, it’s immediately apparent that the world you’re now in is completely different from the one surrounding the festival’s grounds. Occupying what is normally a 28,000-seat soccer stadium and surrounding grounds in the middle of suburban Chicagoland, you wouldn’t be mistaken by believing you’d been transported to an entirely different wor...

Alison Wonderland, Excision, Getter, Adventure Club and EDM.com Class of 2021 artists Blanke and Lucii have been confirmed for performances at the inaugural Necropolis, which organizers liken to a place “where heavy bass music and the dark fantasies of Halloween collide.” They are announcing a second wave of artists soon, according to a press release shared with EDM.com. Tickets will go on sale Friday, August 19th at 12pm CST. You can sign ...
For all of us on the Lollapolooza train—we’re not getting it off of it anytime soon. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has announced that the city’s long-running music festival, held annually in Grant Park, will take place for at least another 10 years. Lightfoot publicly called Lollapalooza “not only a significant economic driver for our city, but a truly iconic Chicago summer festival.” The Chicago Tribune reports a contract between C3 Presents and the city of Chicago calls for the Chicago Park District to receive a share of all C3 revenue streams ranging from 5% to 20%, including admission, goods and services, licensing sales, sponsorships and streaming. The deal also states that the maximum number of attendees can’t exceed 115,000 at any time. ILLENIUM ...
Chicago has reported nearly 1,300 fatal fentanyl overdoses in the last year alone, Fox 32 Chicago reported this week. Now, with the approach of Lollapalooza, the city’s Drug Enforcement Agency is on high alert. “There’s going to be people walking around with backpacks at Lollapalooza that are going to be selling pills that are going to be laced with fentanyl,” Shane Catone, the division’s Deputy Special Agent in Charge, told Fox 32. “There’s not a doubt in my mind.” According to the report, Catone’s department has seized 80,000 pills containing fentanyl in the city since last October. One thing that makes these “fake” drugs so dangerous, he added, is how hard they are to distinguish from the real thing. “I...

Like its pop art inspirations, Chicago’s Heatwave Music Festival was an immediate attention-grabber. The Douglass Park-based event made the most of its sizzling summer debut, where there was certainly no shortage of options for avid festival attendees. Chicagoans know full well how summer in the Windy City is all too short, and with Pitchfork Music Festival, Mas Flow Reggaeton Fest, Heatwave and more happening in the same weekend, fans were eager to capitalize on the fleeting hours. Despite the heavy competition, electronic dance music fans showed up en masse for what could be the next staple of the midwest’s summer festival scene. The vote of confidence from the electronic music community certainly didn’t arise randomly out of thin air. The effort was ba...
