San Francisco’s newest music festival, Portola, went down over the weekend, walloping the Bay Area with the sounds of electronic music greats. The fest, which is produced by Goldenvoice and took place on September 24th and 25th, attracted roughly 30,000 fans and featured an epic lineup. Flume, Fatboy Slim, Four Tet, Jamie xx, Kaytranada, Peggy Gou, Fred again.. and The Chemical Brothers threw down at the sun-kissed grounds of Pier 80, among others. Earlier this month, London’s Design Museum announced that it was set to reopen on July 31st with a stunning new exhibit. The new feature, “Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers,” is an immersive and in-depth look at the world of electronic music, its origins, and its future. The stunning new exhibit features an immersive 3D look at pioneering German quartet Kraftwerk, whose music sparked a revolution and paved the way for electronic dance music as we know it today. London-based label Above Board Projects has released CARE4LIFE, an expansive charity compilation providing COVID-19 relief to NHS Charities Together, a collective supporting the National Health Service. According to a press released issued to announce the compilation, the project is “aimed at assisting and honouring our brave and skilled NHS frontline workforce in this most challenging of times.” Released on Bandcamp today, the album spans a whopping 45 tracks and features new music from many major underground electronic artists, including legendary production duo The Chemical Brothers.
