David Moyes: West Ham can’t afford Tammy Abraham

David Moyes has ruled West Ham out of the running to sign Tammy Abraham. The Chelsea frontman is understood to be one of Moyes’ top summer targets as he attempts to bolster his strikeforce. But the Hammers boss says Abraham’s reported £40million price tag means the 23-year-old is well out of his range. “It would rule us out completely. We will be ruled out,” said Moyes. “So if that’s the figure and that’s what’s being said, we are ruled out. “We don’t have that money, we don’t have that to buy a striker at that price, no. “Is that sort of figure our total spend? It may well be. But you never know here. “I don’t think we will be making a purchase of that for any one player. I’d be surprised if we were.” Get more stories like this on Twitter You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are lookin...

Big Sam backs Semi Ajayi to bounce back from error vs Aston Villa

Boss Sam Allardyce has backed Semi Ajayi to quickly bounce back from the mistake he made in the derby against Villa. The Baggies were 90 seconds away from beating Dean Smith’s side on Sunday but were ultimately held to a point after Kienan Davis fired in to level the scores at 2-2 in stoppage time. Villa’s first goal arrived after Ajayi – who had been recalled to the side at the expense of Dara O’Shea – gave away a needless penalty for a foul on Ross Barkley. Davis’ equaliser meanwhile arrived after Bartley – who has been in outstanding form in recent months – got caught in two minds when it came to clearing a cross. But while Allardyce was left frustrated by those individual errors, he refused to criticise his two centre-backs. And he has backed them and the rest of Albion’s squad to resp...

Real Madrid and Chelsea played out a close 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie. The visitors made a strong start to the game, and should have taken the lead in the ninth minute. Christian Pulisic nodded across goal for Timo Werner, but the striker put his close-range effort straight at Thibaut Courtois when he really ought to have scored. Five minutes later, the Blues were in front. Antonio Rudiger’s floated through ball found Pulisic, who expertly rounded Courtois and smashed into the back of the net. Real Madrid were struggling to get a grip on the game, rarely troubling the Chelsea backline. Although, they came close to an equaliser out of nowhere when Karim Benzema saw his left-footed strike graze the post. And the Frenchman was on hand to bag the equalis...
