With nowhere else to go but cyberspace after its controversial 2021 postponement, Tomorrowland is gearing up for the second edition of its virtual “Around The World” festival. The digital festival is, of course, a far cry from the idyllic electronic music utopia in Belgium’s De Schorre Park. However, organizers are doing their best to deliver the experience at the upcoming Tomorrowland Around The World event, which will feature six meticulously designed 3D stages and performances from Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, Charlotte de Witte, and many more. Check out the full list of set times below. Tomorrowland Around The World 2021 will move forward on the heels of the acrimonious postponement of the festival’s IRL events, which were originally planned over two weekend...

The prep that goes into a music festival is months—and sometimes years—in the making. And when an artist needs to back out at the last minute due to an unavoidable situation, the stakes are high. When Austin’s Seismic Dance Event was faced with this issue, organizers handled the curveball like true professionals. Due to visa issues, techno superstar Charlotte de Witte informed her fans yesterday that she would no longer be able to move forward with her scheduled performances in Tempe, Las Vegas, and her headlining set at Seismic. “We’ve been trying every possible way to make it work but it’s been a race against time,” de Witte tweeted. “A race that we sadly lost.” In an impressive feat of crisis management, Seismic went on to recruit...

Charlotte de Witte is giving her “New Form” livestream series a serious dose of adrenaline. The techno tastemaker is set to perform at the world-famous Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello racetrack on April 29th, 2021. Based in Tuscany, Italy, the track is owned by Ferrari and has been a classic home to F1 racing for decades. de Witte is celebrating the forthcoming release of her Formula EP with a special performance at the prestigious racing venue. The idea first came about when she first re-discovered DJ Visage’s “Schumacher Song,” a Eurodance-style track that revs to life with the heavy-handed use of racing samples. Considering her Belgian background, de Witte felt drawn to a similar creative headspace since the Belgian Grand Prix has ...

For one week only, techno queen Charlotte de Witte is opening up her KNTXT Music imprint for demo submissions for the first time in history. Providing an exciting opportunity for label support, electronic music producers can send music directly to de Witte’s ears via a submission form from March 15th to 21st. With only nine releases under its belt since 2019, KNTXT Music is an exclusive hub for forward-thinking techno music. Tracks by Monoloc, Alignment and ONYVAA were hand-picked by de Witte, making this call for new demos a unique way for rising producers to get their foot in the door. According to KNTXT, this initiative kicks off a commitment to accept submissions annually. “KNTXT stands for purity, strength and progression, within a vibrant and ever evolvin...
In a new interview, Charlotte de Witte has opened up about her perspective on gender inequality in the music industry. Speaking with GRAMMY.com, the Belgian techno superstar waxed poetic about a number of topics, including the paradoxical nature of the phrase “female DJ.” de Witte called the diction “incredibly frustrating” while also bemoaning the term “DJane.” “It is, it’s incredibly frustrating. And it happens all the time,” she said. “A very annoying thing that happens as well is, when people online tend to compare DJs, 99 percent of the cases, it is between two female DJs. And indeed, they refer to you as a female DJ or ‘DJane,’ that’s also a word.” de Witte, who was recently named as on...
This year, the team at EDM.com is proud to publish four installments of “Best of 2020” coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances, Music Producers, and Songs. DJing and music production are different. But the difference between the two is like a wallflower—it hides in plain sight, and it is vastly misunderstood. Many artists do both, but not all DJs produce music and not all music producers DJ. Producers create the music that a DJ will then play out to crowds—it’s an important distinction that eludes many. Like a sleek Lamborghini driving from one coast to another, the art of DJing is a stylish means to an end. And music production is the engine that powers it. To publish a “Top DJ” list would be to undermine the originality, ingenuity, and dauntless imagin...
This year, the team at EDM.com is proud to publish four installments of “Best of 2020” coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances, Music Producers, and Songs. With no venues to perform at in 2020, it seemed at times as if artists simply blindfolded their eyes, threw a dart at a map, and travelled to places to perform—locations that are usually pipe dreams. However, due to the dogged fury of COVID-19 and the surge of streaming, these pie-in-the-sky destinations became the new norm for DJs who wanted to connect with fans in the absence of tours. To honor their creativity and seminal influences on the live music industry, we’ve recognized ten of the year’s best performances in dance music. RÜFÜS DU SOL Live from Joshua Tree Filmed in late 2019 and released in ...
Back in July, Bob Moses teamed up with ZHU for the release of their dark, minimal track “Desire.” This atmosphere was expanded over the weekend when Charlotte de Witte added some of her haunting techno flair to the tune. de Witte’s pounding drums are instantly recognizable and while she certainly raises the tempo from the original, she does well to maintain its eerie tone. In addition to cranking up the drums, the synths from the trio are emphasized in her remix with the addition of an acid-infused, wobbly bassline. Check out the new remix below. de Witte’s “Desire” remix is packaged with an animated music video. Fans might remember the original track’s visual accompaniment, which features red and blue characters falling through a futuri...
