After releasing a host of irresistible house tracks such as “Controller” and “Top Down” in the past four years, Compton-based artist/producer Channel Tres will finally bring forth his debut album in 2022. Real Cultural Shit will arrive this fall on Godmode and is led by the jubilant new single “Just Can’t Get Enough,” which samples the late soul legend Teddy Pendergrass. While Beyoncé and Drake have successfully dipped their toes into the house music waters of late, Channel Tres has given the genre a major signal boast since his first officially released tracks back in 2018. “My dad is from Chicago. House music was created there, and over time the music got lost in translation,” says the artist, whose real name is Sheldon Young. “So, when I studied it and I saw that it was African-American...
It’s album release month for Beyoncé, and the world is waiting on bated breath. After all, Renaissance‘s lead single, “Break My Soul,” has already made history. Queen Bey is now the first ever woman to release 20 Top 10 hits as a solo artist as well as 10 as a member of a group. Not to mention the house-minded rhythm and groove in “Break My Soul,” which samples a timeless dance anthem. With her previous albums, Beyoncé has counted artists like Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West as collaborators. And based on the creative direction Renaissance seems to be headed in, it’s fair to wonder whether or not house music producers are next up in her storied career. Here are six artists we think would slay on Beyoncé...

As the occasional airplane engine rumbled in the nearby runway, revelers danced under the stars in a not-so-traditional dancefloor: a repurposed air museum. Guests attending the inaugural Desert Air Festival found themselves grooving to class acts from across the electronic dance scene surrounded by aircraft of a bygone era. Curated by Goldenvoice, the aviation-themed festival is the natural successor of Splash House‘s after-hours events held at the Palm Springs Air Museum. When it comes to electronic music-making, it truly can take a village. Anna Lunoe‘s latest release, a collab with Genesis Owusu called “Back Seat,” is our case in point. Out via the Nina Las Vegas-helmed NLV Records, “Back Seat” is a hip-shaking acid house triumph. It’s also Lunoe’s first original single of the year, marking an exciting return for the Australian dance music veteran. The song shines bright with Owusu’s silky smooth vocals. They’re perfectly matched by an infectiously funky bassline from Aussie artist Touch Sensitive, guaranteed to be stuck in your head for days. And those aren’t the only friends who pitched in, according to Lunoe. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and...
In music, there have always been two types of producers: those who play the game, and those who shape it. These latter tastemakers are above the cut when it comes to their sonic instincts, particularly when it comes to partnering up with their peers. Nowadays, TOKiMONSTA is leading the pack, and she’s right on target with her latest collaborator: the always-in-demand Channel Tres. Released July 30th via her own Young Art Records banner, “Naked” sees TOKiMONSTA’s ear for rhythm and groove find its perfect pairing in the woozy warmth of Channel Tres. Featuring a decadent bass line and disco-inspired synthscapes, it brings the energy of an invite-only speakeasy, making you feel trendier simply by pressing play. The mood of “Naked” comes to a head with a tri...
Following the release of last year’s Duality LP, Duke Dumont has returned with his first release of the year, For Club Play Only Pt. 7. The new two-track EP arrives at a time when clubs, venues, and festivals are revving back to life. With new tour dates on the calendar for Dumont, it feels like the right time to reboot his club-focused EP series, which first began in 2012. Dumont kicks things off with “Alter Ego,” leading listeners down a rabbit hole of arpeggiated acid synth textures. Paired with the confident and smooth vocals of Channel Tres, it’s enough to put anyone in a party starting mood. That energy continues more unabashedly on the B-side, “Let Me Dance.” Kid Enigma waxes poetic about the lights, vibrations, and sounds of losing one’...
