Rob Zombie has slowly been revealing which characters the actors in his upcoming movie The Munsters will be playing, and the latest unveiling is Elvira’s role. The “Mistress of the Dark” has been cast as Barbara Carr, the top real estate agent in the flick’s fictional town of Mockingbird Heights. Elvira (real name Cassandra Peterson) had been mentioned as part of the original cast announcement, but her role wasn’t known until now. An on-set picture of her as Barbara finds her nearly unrecognizable. Gone is her trademark vampiric look in favor of a suburban real estate agent with a colorful vintage skirt suit and wavy red hair. Zombie posted the reveal on Instagram, writing, “ATTENTION CASTING NEWS! Straight from the set of THE MUNSTERS is your first look at Barbara Carr, the #1 real estate...
The DC Extended Universe just got a little more super, as Sasha Calle has been added to the upcoming Flash movie as Supergirl. Director Andy Muschietti announced the casting by sharing video of the Zoom call he had with Calle informing her she’d won the role. According to Deadline, the Young and the Restless actress beat out 425 others for the part. The publication also noted that the Boston-born Colombian actress would be making “her debut” in the November 4th, 2022 release, implying there are plans for Calle’s Supergirl in future DCEU movies. This will mark the first time a Latina has ever worn the Supergirl outfit in any form, including in the comics. The character has historically been depicted as a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Kryptonian, previously played by Helen Slater in the 1984...

Via The Hollywood Reporter, the show has added Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One), Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown), and Emma D’Arcy (Wanderlust). The events of this new show will be drawn from Fire and Blood, George R.R. Martin’s 2018 book about the history of the Targaryen house. In October, HBO announced that Paddy Considine will play King Viserys Targaryen. Now, we know a bit more about the rest of the Targaryen clan. Hollywood moves fast, even during a pandemic. No less than a week after Warner Bros. announced the departure of Johnny Depp from the Fantastic Beasts franchise, reports are already coming in on a potential replacement. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to replace Depp as Gellert Grindelwald. The behind-the-scenes brevity makes sense, seeing how the film is already in production following postponements to Covid-19. If all goes accordingly, Mikkelsen will be the third star to portray the villain. Prior to Depp, Colin Farrell had worn Grindelwald’s seemingly ever-changing mug, all before exiting stage left by the end of 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The untitled third adventure in the Harry Potter prequel series hits theaters on Ju...
Wendell Pierce (photo by Daniel Hambury) and B.B. King (photo courtesy of artist’s website) It must be three o’clock, because Wendell Pierce has the blues. The actor has announced he’ll be playing the late, great B.B. King in a new biopic about the legendary musician. Pierce is known for his roles as Detective Bunk Moreland in The Wire and, more recently, James Greer in Amazon’s Jack Ryan. He announced his casting as King himself, tweeting, “We are official. Preparation has begun on a film where I will be honored to play the great, BB King. Humbled.” In a separate tweet, he added, “I promised BB King before he died, I will honor him and his creative genius. An American Icon.” The project is entitled The Thrill Is On, playing off the name of King’s beloved cover of Roy Hawkins’ “The T...
It’s as if Adam McKay clicked his ruby slippers together and said, “There’s no place like the Oscars.” His new Netflix film Don’t Look Up had already secured the talents of Cate Blanchett and Rob Morgan; now, via The Hollywood Reporter, the project has added three more heavyweights in Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, and Her Gloriousness Meryl Streep. Don’t Look Up is written and directed by McKay. It follows a pair of scientists who make the apocalyptic discovery that a meteor will impact the Earth in six months. They embark on a media blitz to warn the world, only to discover that most people either don’t believe them or don’t care. This definitely-fictional and not-at-all-based-on-real-events story will star DiCaprio and Lawrence as the unfortunate scientists. In addition to t...
The stars are aligning for Paul Thomas Anderson. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HAIM singer-songwriter Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman, son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, will make their feature debuts in his untitled ’70s coming-of-age film. Details remain scarce, but it’s being reported that Haim and Hoffman will be the lead stars of the ensemble drama that’s set in the San Fernando Valley. Together, they join star Bradley Cooper, who was previously attached to the project. Both castings make sense. Anderson has been steadily working with HAIM since 2017’s Something to Tell You. He also has a long history with the Hoffman family, having worked with the late Oscar winner on nearly every one of his directorial efforts. Editors’ Picks This is Anderson’s first film since 2017’...
Nicolas Cage is following in the proud lineage of Sean Connery, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Rachel Weisz by lending his voice to a CG dragon. The actor has signed on to play the title character in Amazon Prime’s adaptation of Highfire (via Deadline). The live-action series is based on the crime thriller novel by Eoin Colfer, best known for his Artemis Fowl series (which took Disney years to turn into a completely terrible movie). Unlike those books, though, Highfire is aimed at an adult audience, with The Guardian describing it as “True Detective meets Swamp Thing.” It’s centered on Highfire (Cage), a dragon who used to lord over his brethren but now lives in the Louisiana Honey Island Swamp. Going by the name “Vern,” he hides amongst alligators when he’s not watchin...
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is getting a remake. As Deadline reports, Paramount Pictures has commissioned a modern update of John Hughes’ 1987 holiday classic with stars Will Smith and Kevin Hart in the lead. Brooklyn 99 and Woke writer Aeysha Carr will pen the script and make her feature film screenwriting debut. Not surprisingly, both Smith and Hart will also serve as producers on the project via Westbrook Studios and Hartbeat Productions, respectively. The original film starred Steve Martin and the late John Candy as two unlikely bedfellows who are forced to rely on each other as they find a way home before the Thanksgiving holiday. At the center of it all is a gooey heart beating with teary drama. Whether or nor this remake will similarly bring us to tears remains to be seen. The j...
Never leave one job without securing another, right? That old adage is certainly one Jensen Ackles believes in. Today, the Supernatural hunk confirmed on Instagram that he’s reuniting with his pal Eric Kripke for the third season of The Boys. “I keep wondering what I’ll do….when @cw_supernatural finally ends this year,” Ackles wrote on Instagram. “Then it hit me.” He accompanied the caption with a clip of him holding up a graphic novel of The Boys with “Soldier Boy” playing. Kripke then confirmed the news in a true-blue Kripke statement: “When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment. I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider h...
It was only a matter of time before Princess Diana popped up in Netflix’s The Crown. That time is now as the award-winning historical drama enters its fifth season — and they even have an actress in place. Today, the show confirmed that Tenet and Guardians of the Galaxy star Elizabeth Debicki will be heading to Buckingham Palace to play Princess Di. “Princess Diana’s spirit, her words, and her actions live in the hearts of so many,” said Debicki in a statement shared via the show’s Twitter account. “It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series which had me hooked from episode one.” What’s more, Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes) will play Prince Philip alongside Debicki’s portrayal of the late legend in the series’ final two seasons — that is Season 5 and 6. That’s ex...
