After releasing his first-ever live album last year, Carl Cox is now fueling another passion: racing. The techno music legend has launched his own motorsport racing team, which will compete in this year’s Extreme E championship, an off-road racing series. He joins an Extreme E lineup that includes teams run by a number of iconic motorsport names, like McLaren and Lewis Hamilton (X44 Vida Carbon Racing). Cox, who founded his Carl Cox Motorsport brand in 2013, is a longtime racing enthusiast and competitive drag racer. However, the Extreme E championship marks his first venture into electric racing. “I’m here to make a difference. To have the opportunity to be part of something so dynamic on four wheels is a dream come true,” Cox said in a press release share...
EDM.com proudly publishes four installments of annual year-end coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances, Music Producers and Songs. DJing and music production are different. But the difference between the two is like a wallflower—it hides in plain sight, and it’s vastly misunderstood. Publishing a “Top DJ” list would undermine the originality, ingenuity and dauntless imagination of the artists who dedicate their lives to music production. To honor their fearless creativity and profound dedication to their craft, we’ve recognized 10 of the best electronic music producers of 2022. Hardwell Hardwell. c/o Hardwell Hardwell’s long-awaited return from a multi-year hiatus was anything but conventional. Rather than stay the course and fan the fumes of big room house n...
Iconic, breathtaking, indelible—what can be said about Carl Cox‘s music that hasn’t already been said about Ultra‘s RESISTANCE Megastructure? The legendary DJ is embedded in the mythos of Ultra, a festival that is as vital to rave culture as Cox is to techno. He’s been throwing down in Miami for nearly two decades now, and the star of his legacy only grows brighter with each eye-popping RESISTANCE set. There’s no arguing the power of Ultra’s Main Stage, but the immersive Megastructure is the festival’s pièce de résistance. It’s here where Cox has enraptured the nation’s electronic music community since 2017. Carl Cox performs at Ultra’s RESISTANCE Megastructure. Rudgrcom But that wasn’t always the ca...
What better way to celebrate a new EP—and the year’s most anticipated electronic album—than with a massive party. Carl Cox took “massive” to a new level on October 15th, taking over London’s Wembley Arena for his first-ever headlining set at the iconic entertainment venue. But it doesn’t stop there. For the very first time, he treated attendees to music from Electronic Generations, his first album in 10 years. The impending record, Cox’s first as a live electronic artist, has the feel of a tour de force for the legendary techno artist, who promised a “true electronic music experience” inspired by the crowds he has watched and directed in dance over his storied career. The Wembley show was every techno fan’s dream. Captivating lights and...
Ahead of his first album in over a decade, Carl Cox has shared a mind-bending EP, Welcome to My World. Cox’s Electronic Generations is due out at the end of this month, but he’s given fans plenty to chew on with the new four-track EP. The storied techno and house music producer kicks off Welcome to My World with “World Gone Mad,” a song that leads with an impassioned, declarative vocal sample before opening the flood gates of frenzied acid bass. The pummeling techno riffs continue throughout the effort, marking a somewhat substantial departure in tone from the three previously released tracks. Cox takes his reworks of “See the Sun Rising,” “How It Makes You Feel” and “Speed Trials On Acid”—collabs with Franky Wah, Nicole...
If you thought Ultra couldn’t top last year’s historic festival, think again. The organizers of Ultra Music Festival have revealed the first wave of artists confirmed to perform in Miami in 2023. And it’s more of a tidal wave. The lineup has more highlights than an Aaron Judge home run reel. Eric Prydz is set to bring his rare HOLO show to Ultra’s breathtaking RESISTANCE Megastructure, where techno pioneer Carl Cox will return after a captivating three-hour headlining set in 2022. Meanwhile, deadmau5 is primed for two collaborative performances: one with Kaskade (as Kx5) and another under his Testpilot alias with HI-LO, the techno nom de plume of Oliver Heldens. Carl Cox‘s first album in over a decade continues to unfurl with his latest single, “See the Sun Rising” alongside Franky Wah. The two techno masterminds previously made dance floor magic with the euphoric “We Are One” in 2021, and thus a proper follow-up was all but certain. Cox’s heavy-handed kicks on “See the Sun Rising” punch through the mix expeditiously while the melodic techno sensibilities of Wah shine in the arrangement’s uplifting, arpeggiated melody. It’s a blend of sounds that Wah likened to a match made in heaven. “I think the record is a perfect combination of both mine and Carl’s underground sound,” Wah said in a press release shared with EDM.com. “Fast pumping drums and bass lines Carl is kn...
