Calvin Harris Claps Back at “Slander” of UK Club Culture: “I Was Brought Up on House Music”

Just over a week after he blasted the UK government for its treatment of the music industry in the wake of COVID-19, Calvin Harris has returned to double down on his barbs. The Grammy Award-winning music producer and DJ took to Instagram to share a video of a grumpy critic, who lambasted house music. “Unfortunately we’ve got a generation of young songwriters who’ve grown up, brought up on house music, and house music is the worst songwriting. There isn’t any songwriting skills in house music, to me.” “The dance music & club culture slander continues in the UK,” Harris wrote. “I was brought up on house music.” Many major dance music artists came to Harris’ defense in the comment section and expresses their dismay, inc...

Martin Garrix, Kygo, David Guetta, More Nominated for 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards

The list of the 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards nominations has arrived. In addition to the usual suspects, like Lady Gaga, who led the field with seven nods, and BTS and Justin Bieber, each of whom received five nominations, a number of EDM artists were also chosen. Nominated in the category of “Best Electronic” were Calvin Harris, David Guetta, The Chainsmokers, Kygo, Marshmello, and Martin Garrix, the latter of whom took home the trophy last year. It’s a bit disappointing to see MTV Europe basically nominate the most popular and safe artists in EDM without giving a nod or two to more unheralded and deserving artists, but that’s to be expected. Notable snubs include Duke Dumont, who unveiled his critically acclaimed debut album Duality&n...

Calvin Harris Blasts UK Government: “You’ve Lost Sight of What Life is About”

Calvin Harris took to social media yesterday, September 28th, to blast the UK government for its treatment of the music industry in the wake of COVID-19. The Grammy Award-winning music producer and DJ shared a scathing statement on Instagram, writing that the UK government is “treating [the] music industry like shit.” ” [It] contributes 5bn to the economy, generates massive tax revenues for NHS and other public services…besides that, culture is extremely fucking important…you’ve lost sight of what life is about…you’d rather live in a world of supermarkets and pharmaceutical drugs,” Harris continued. To further drive home his sentiments, Harris also cited an article by UK Music that analyzed its own 2019 “Music By Numbers” repo...

Additionally, genre selection can directly relate to the type of workout preferred by the respondent.  They also found that Lady Gaga was the most popular artist for working out and that pop music tops the charts with 53.4% of respondents selecting it as the...

Watch Calvin Harris Deconstruct His Song With The Weeknd, “Over Now”

As Calvin Harris and The Weeknd‘s collaborative single “Over Now” continues its ascent up the charts, Harris has offered a one-of-a-kind glimpse into the song’s creation. The Grammy Award-winning DJ and dance music producer shared a video in which he deconstructs the track, offering a glimpse into the creative process of one of contemporary music’s most successful record producers. A highlight of the video is when he uses a Roland Devil Fish TB-303 synth to show how he made...

Honey Dijon Drops Stunning Remix of Love Regenerator and Steve Lacy’s “Live Without Your Love”

Released back in July, “Live Without Your Love” saw Calvin Harris‘ alter ego Love Regenerator and Steve Lacy join forces on a pounding acid house tune. Swapping out much of the acid sound of the original for thumping brass and keys, the new rework transports the already retro-inspired single back even further with sounds of dance music’s past. Anything but dated, Honey Dijon’s tactile “Love Unlimited Remix” serves as an introduction to her renowned house sound for the younger generation who may received their first taste of electronic music from Harris’ pop releases. Honey Dijon’s “Love Unlimited Remix” o...
