If 2022’s albums are any indication, we’re on the precipice of the best years for dance music in history—just like David Guetta boldy predicted. Here are 22 of the most anticipated albums expected to release this year. Flume Palaces, Flume‘s third studio album and first since 2016’s critically acclaimed Skin, is slated to release on May 20th. He r...

Calvin Harris Confirms Long-Awaited “Funk Wav Bounces” Sequel

Calvin Harris is here to steal the summer before it even starts. “Vol. 2 is gonna be mad,” Harris tweeted coyly. But that was all fans needed to hear to get the message loud and clear—there will indeed be a successor to Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. Harris’ last album arrived seemingly an eternity ago in the summer of 2017. A feature-heavy electronic album stylistically at the intersection of uplifting funk and hip-hop, the record continues to stand out as something of a black sheep in Harris’ broader discography. Nonetheless, it has aged incredibly well, and at the time of writing the album has cleared well over 2 billion streams on Spotify alone.  It’s impossible to discuss Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 however without mentioning its star-power. Harris secured a d...

He’ll join headliners Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Carl Cox, Becky Hill, Fatboy Slim, CamelPhat, deadmau5, Charlotte de Witte, Jamie Jones and Amelie Lens. The advent of COVID-19 fed Prydz’s ambitious “HOLO” endeavor through a never-ending wood chipper. Following its momentous appearance at the first weekend of Tomorrowland in 2019, the intricate production was axed for the festival’s second iteration before being shelved indefinitely in 2020 ...

Electronic Music Pulls the Strings of The Weeknd’s “Dawn FM” Album—With Production From Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia

After the release of his hotly anticipated Dawn FM album, it’s clear The Weeknd‘s penchant for dance music is more voracious than ever. The Weeknd has long championed electronic dance music, collaborating with the likes of Gesaffelstein, Daft Punk, and Disclosure, among others. However, Dawn FM twists the knife into this curiosity by presenting the most dance-forward album of his career. And it’s also his most creative yet. The album plays out like a radio station during a late-night drive in the 80s, featuring sultry interludes from Jim Carrey and Quincy Jones. But despite its escapist narrative and lovelorn motifs, at its core, the phantasmagoric Dawn FM was designed for dance parties. The proof is in the pudding. The Weeknd joined forces with disco-pop extraordina...

EDM.com Presents: The House Brew, Vol. 1

House and techno are the bedrock of electronic music. From the deep, dark trenches of barebones techno to the entrancing soundscapes of piano-laden melodic house, EDM.com’s monthly series The House Brew explores new releases from time-tested genres. “Next To Me” – RÜFÜS DU SOL “We decided we wanted this to be a simple love song, which is rare of us to do, to create something purely sweet without juxtaposing that with the raw, dark emotions on the other side,” RÜFÜS DU SOL said about “Next To Me.” Tyrone Lindqvist’s yearning vocals welcome listeners alongside a simple, soothing piano melody. Then, a howling chorus crescendos into an infectious groove. With emotive lyrics, tender vocals, and spirited basslines, “Next To Me” is signature RÜFÜ...

“What a Time”: Calvin Harris Reflects On 10th Anniversary of “Feel So Close”

A decade ago, Calvin Harris wanted to step into the background. It was summer of 2010, and the emerging producer had just finished his last “band”-style gig at Creamfields.  With a newfound desire to focus on presenting his music within the scope of DJ sets instead, Harris was eager to blend into the background a bit. That meant delegating the role of singing his own music. Harris subsequently spent months in the studio working with singers on what he believed would be his next chapter of music, but after presenting the demos to his label, the response was “overwhelmingly lukewarm.” With the wind taken out of his sails, Harris was feeling impulsive. An emotional cocktail of disappointment, sadness, and determination was what it took for Harris to write “F...

Calvin Harris’ Love Regenerator Returns With Soulful Collab With Eli Brown, “We Can Come Together”

It’s been over a year since fans of Calvin Harris heard new music from his Love Regenerator alias, but he’s now revived it alongside Eli Brown for a track called “We Can Come Together.” The guys teamed up back in April 2020 for a collaborative EP called Moving, but have since been quiet on the collab front. The Love Regenerator project pays homage to Harris’ roots in house and early rave music. That sound is as strong as ever here, as Harris and Brown produce a soulful, piano-driven house record that turns back the clock to the glory days of house. Cover art of Love Regenerator and Eli Brown’s new single “We Can Come Together.” The vocals here are a fun combination of positive messaging and clever sampling. The refrain, wh...

Watch the Kaleidoscopic Music Video for Calvin Harris and Tom Grennan’s “By Your Side”

The song of the summer is poised to continue its domination after Calvin Harris and Tom Grennan dropped the official music video for “By Your Side.” “By Your Side” arrived just one week ago and immediately became entrenched as the song of summer 2021. Directed by Emil Nava, the kaleidoscopic music video is akin to pineapples and Malibu sunrises, a bubbly audiovisual project that ties in perfectly with the sun-kissed tune. A radiant Grennan shines here, dancing along with the mirthful buoyancy that originally inspired Harris to recruit him for the song’s topline. “The first thing is I liked [Grennan’s] voice a lot,” Harris told Zane Lowe of Apple Music 1 in a recent interview. “I started following him on Ins...

Marking his first release of 2021, Calvin Harris has unveiled his hotly anticipated summertime anthem “By Your Side.” The breezy “By Your Side” reminds listeners of simpler times, turning back the clock to the barnstorming electronic-pop sound that helped Harris break through in the 2010s. Teaming up with buzzing British singer-songwriter Tom Grennan, this earworm is textured with bubbly chord progressions, warm guitar riffs, and sun-kissed soundscapes. This bright and buoyant pop-house hybrid arrives at the perfect time as summer fast approaches. In a video shared on Twitter yesterday, Grennan waxed poetic about how “this is going to be the summer we’ve all been waiting for.” As shows and music festival...
