Ahly defeat Berkane in Super Cup to claim 21st African title

Mohamed Sherif and Salah Mohsen scored in the second half to give Al Ahly of Egypt a 2-0 win over Renaissance Berkane of Morocco in the CAF Super Cup match on Friday, and a 21st African title. Forward Sherif finished off a sweeping passing move by hammering a left-foot shot past goalkeeper Zouhair Laaroubi into the far corner on 57 minutes. Unmarked fellow forward Mohsen doubled the lead eight minutes from time in Qatari capital Doha by rounding Laaroubi and pushing the ball into the net. Rivers United defeat Bloemfontein Celtics in CAF Confederation qualifier

Rivers United are through to the final playoff round of the CAF Confederation Cup after they again defeated South Africa’s Bloemfontein Celtics on Saturday. Despite playing at a neutral ground, at the Charles De Gaulles Stadium in Port Novo, Benin Republic, Rivers United posted a 3-0 win over Celtics to progress on 5-0 aggregate scoreline. The Pride of Rivers had registered a 2-0 win when they played the first leg in South Africa in December and despite the uncertainties that postponed and rescheduled the second leg, Stanley Eguma’s men delivered yet another flawless performance. CAFCC: Rivers United fall to 2-1 defeat vs Futuro Kings

Rivers United lost 2-1 to Futuro Kings of Equatorial Guinea in their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first leg tie at the Estadio de Mongomo on Saturday afternoon. Nkama Gregoire put the hosts ahead late in the first half, nodding home from close range. Futuro Kings doubled their advantage in the 68th minute. Godwin Aguda reduced the deficit when he converted from the spot 13 minutes from time. Rivers United fought hard to equalise in the closing stages of the game, but were unable to find a way past the home team’s defence. Togo pay tribute to Edem Koudagba after unexpected death

The Togolese Football Federation have paid tribute to ASC Kara striker Kossi Edem Koudagba following his death at the age of 24 on Thursday. The striker, who netted against Nigeria at the 2019 Wafu Cup of Nations, died in his hometown of Davie following a short illness. “In these painful circumstances, the Executive Committee of the FTF wish to salute the memory of the player, whose qualities on and off the field are known to all,” a communique from the federation began. “The FTF Executive Committee would like, on behalf of Togolese football, to express our deepest condolences and express our feelings of sympathy to the family of the deceased, loved ones, the ASCK club, as well as the staff and players of the Togo national team.” Koudagba’s death was announced on Thursday, with the young f...
