Protohype to Appear on Star-Studded Album From Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello

It’s not every day an electronic music artist sees their name alongside Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder on an album. But Protohype isn’t just any artist. The Nashville-born, neck-breaking dubstep vet has been confirmed to appear on The Atlas Underground Fire, the star-studded upcoming album from Tom Morello. Protohype, who has long been championed for his versatility and genre-fluid approach to production, took to social media to exult in the pie-in-the-sky collab and share a preview. “[D]reams come true,” he tweeted. Check out the clip of the raucous electronic-rock hybrid, dubbed “Charmed I’m Sure,” below. Morello, perhaps best known as the virtuosic guitarist of iconic rock band Rage Against the Machine, has locked in a staggering list of...

Tom Morello Enlists Eddie Vedder, Bruce Springsteen for ‘Highway to Hell’ Cover

The past few days have seen Tom Morello teasing new music on the way. On Wednesday morning, the Rage Against the Machine guitarist unveiled a new bit of older music — a thunderous cover of AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” with Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder Fun fact: the trio previously performed the song together several times in 2014 during Springsteen’s Australian tour. The single comes from Morello’s forthcoming Atlas Underground album called The Atlas Underground Fire. The collection follows the 2018 rendition, The Atlas Underground. “Our version of ‘Highway To Hell’ pays homage to AC/DC but with Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder, brings this legendary song into the future. One of the greatest rock’n’roll songs of all time sung by two of the greatest rock’n’roll singers of a...

The 100 Greatest Rock Stars Since That Was A Thing

Three of the 100 are in this picture! The Rolling Stones, in 1964, from left to right: Bill Wyman, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Brian Jones. The problem with lists like this is they are invariably bullshit. So our prime objective was to make sure we didn’t do a bullshit list. I’m not saying we did a scientific one either. Because that isn’t possible — actually, it is, if you wanted some compilation of who sold the most records/concert tickets/has the most fans/got the most death threats, etc., and someone could come up with a bunch of very empirical metrics and create a “heat index” or something, and could deliver an actual scientific ranking! But we, um, didn’t do that. In fact we didn’t even, technically, do the “we...

Bruce Springsteen and the Killers Unveil ‘Dustland’ Collaboration

If you’ve ever thought that the Killers, despite the glitz and glam of their sound, owe a thing or two to Bruce Springsteen, you’re not incorrect. In fact, it’s something we noted on our review of Imploding the Mirage last August. But, joining forces? That seemed unlikely, however, that is (after a week of teasing) exactly what happened. Springsteen and the Killers unveiled “Dustland,” a new song released together. The song is a reworking of “A Dustland Fairytale” from the Killers’ 2008 album Day & Age, and is one that the Boss has said is his favorite from the band. You don’t need me to describe the sound of the song, you can a) use your imagination or b) listen below (which if you’re reading this, are probably going to do anyway). If you’re wondering how it all went down, let Brandon...

Bruce Springsteen Says That He’s Joining The Killers on an Upcoming Collaboration

Bruce Springsteen said that he’ll be joining The Killers an upcoming song that should be arriving “in a week or so,” or at least that’s what Springsteen said during a DJ set on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio aka his own station. Prior to the confirmation, The Killers had fun teasing their fans with whatever mystery partnership might be in the works. “We’re announcing a killer collab (pun intended) later this week, but you’ve got to figure out who it’s with,” they wrote on their social media accounts yesterday (June 10). We’re announcing a killer collab (pun intended) later this week, but you’ve got to figure out who it’s with. Be on the lookout for clues in coming posts. Bruce Springsteen Promises New Album ‘Soon’ During Award Speech

At the beginning of 2021,  Bruce Springsteen said he wouldn’t tour until 2022 but told SiriusXM that he had a “big surprise” coming: Last night, he revealed the surprise:  He has a record coming out soon that’s set in the West. Springsteen speaks on the role that the state of California has played in his “most topical” songwriting, “The ’90s, the 2000s, and even now on a record coming out soon set largely in the West,” he explained. “So I got very involved in telling those Western stories through my work.” He made the fan-thrilling announcement during a remote acceptance speech as the eighth recipient of the Woody Guthrie Prize, an award that goes to artists who honor and create in the spirit of the legendary folksinger. Will Springsteen’s new project will pair wit...

Lorde and Marlon Williams Cover Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Tougher Than the Rest’

Concerts, remember those? In New Zealand, they’ve got the whole COVID thing figured out, meaning that concerts are back on like they were pre-March 2020. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, Marlon Williams has been on tour and for the final night of his four-night stint at Auckland’s Hollywood Theatre, he brought out none other than Lorde, who has been laying extremely low over the past few years. Together, they joined forces for a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s 1987 “Tougher Than the Rest,” one of the most underrated chestnuts from his catalog. The song was originally released on Tunnel of Love. Unlike the moody, midtempo rocker, the Lorde and Williams version is a tender piano ballad. This isn’t the first time Lorde has tipped her proverbial cap to the Boss. In 2017, she covered “...

Bruce Springsteen Pleads Guilty to Alcohol Consumption in a Public Area; DUI and Reckless Driving Charges Dismissed

A few weeks ago, it was revealed that Bruce Springsteen was arrested on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving and publicly consuming alcohol on Nov. 14, 2020 at the Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook, New Jersey. Details surrounding the incident were a bit fuzzy and as they were revealed, seemed odd. But now, there’s resolution. Today at a hearing in New Jersey, the DUI and reckless driving charges were dismissed. However, Springsteen voluntarily plead guilty to a violation of consuming an alcoholic beverage in a closed area. He paid a fine of $500. “Mr. Springsteen is pleased with the outcome of today’s court appearance. The prosecutor was unable to provide the necessary evidence and facts as it related to the charge of Driving under the Influence (DUI) and Reckless Driving ...
