We all know that lingerie is one of the most delicate items we own, and as such, it requires additional thought when it comes to cleaning. Unlike clothing, which literally has washing instructions laid out in black and white on the label, there’s a big grey area surrounding bra care. Should we simply throw them in the wash with similar colours, or should we be doing dedicated loads? Is hand-washing really the better option? And just how often should you wash your bras, anyway? We have lots of questions, so we decided to seek out the answers. In an attempt to understand the washing etiquette of our smalls, we turned to an expert on the subject. Debora Ramos, La Perla’s development manager (who has been with the lingerie giant for over 20 years), for her expert opinion on the mat...
When most people put on a bra each day, they do so reluctantly. All of us bra-wearers have had to go through a teething stage where we eliminate options that just don’t work. Do underwired lacy styles, though pretty, fill you with dread every time you reach for your underwear drawer? Every body is unique, and finding the right shape, cup size and fabrication is largely a process of trial and error. There’s one key quality you should be aiming for when choosing your everyday bra type: invisibility. Not literal invisibility, obviously, but the right bra should look and feel like it doesn’t exist once you’re finished getting dressed. Ideally, it’ll be forgotten about within seconds of hooking its clasp or slipping it o...

Once you’ve done the band, then you want to measure the fullest part of your bust. Gently take the tape measure and measure it in inches as well. Then comes the slightly tricky bit: To work out what your cup size is, you want to subtract your band size from your bust size. From the difference between the two sizes, you can work out your cup. If the difference is less than 1, then it’s AA; 1 means A; 2 means B; 3 means C; 4 means D; 5 means DD; and so on. You’ll still need your band measurement to give you the number preceding the letter. For example, if your band size is 34 but your bust size is 37, then your bra size is 34C (difference of 3, again, means it’s a C-cup). Of course, it’s worth mentioning that bras can fit differently according to different brand...
Does such a thing as the best strapless bra exist? I can’t count the number of times I’ve sworn them off after spending an embarrassing evening hoisting them up. To help me, and you, find the best strapless bras and ensure they fit properly, I spoke to lingerie expert Eloise Rigby, who owns The Pantry Underwear shop in Islington, which caters to cups from A to K. She gave me a few helpful rules to stick to. 1. Go for one back size smaller than usual. Without shoulder straps, cups are only supported by the back strap, so this needs enough pull to keep the cups in place. To compensate, you’ll (probably) need to go up a cup size. 2. Start on the loosest set of hooks. This will ensure the longest life from the bra, so you can move inwards as the back strap stretches. 3. To check if a size works, pop an arm behind your back, and use your thumb to pull the strap outwards. You should be able to pull it back only half an inch with resi...
Backless bras are quite a controversial subject. For starters, do they really do anything? And wouldn’t it just be easier to go braless? It’s a yes to both for us, which proves exactly why this is such a tricky lingerie item to pin down and feel content with. So if you’re in need of a bit of support and don’t want to feel exposed (not to mention if you have a fuller bust), there are definitely outfits that require such an item. Whether that’s a plunging and revealing top, dress or jumpsuit, a backless bra can come in handy and really make your whole look. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online.
