Fire Island Review: A Delicious Jane Austen-Infused Rom-Com That Matches the Master’s Wit

The Pitch: Right from the jump, thanks to the voiceover of Noah (Joel Kim Booster) and a carefully planted copy of Pride and Prejudice, Fire Island tells you what it’s going to be — a retelling of the Jane Austen classic tale, relocated to a place and time that Jane Austen would have had a very hard time imagining: the titular gay party mecca centered in the hamlets of Cherry Grove and Fire Island Pines. Noah and his friends (including Matt Rogers, Tomás Matos, and Torian Miller) are making their annual trek to the island for a week of fun, sun, drugs, dancing, and most importantly — hooking up. But this year, things are a bit different. For one thing, their beloved adoptive mom Erin (Margaret Cho) has to sell her house on the island soon, giving this trip an air of finality. And also, Noa...

Megan Thee Stallion, Nathan Lane, Bowen Yang, and Megan Mullally Join A24’s Fucking Identical Twins

In a collaboration we certainly couldn’t have predicted, musical theater icon Nathan Lane and recent college graduate Megan Thee Stallion will be joining Megan Mullally and SNL’s Bowen Yang in Fucking Identical Twins, a forthcoming musical comedy from A24. Described as a “subversive spin” on The Parent Trap, Fucking Identical Twins stars and is written by comedians Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp. It’s based on the duo’s two-man stage show, which they premiered at New York’s iconic Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in 2014. Larry Charles (Borat) will direct the film, which is currently in production. Similar to the 1961 film (and the 1998 masterpiece of a remake), Fucking Identical Twins follows two rival businessmen who realize they’re, well, fucking identical tw...

Kieran Culkin Just Wants to Cancel His Cable in Hilarious SNL Sketch: Watch

“Your call is important to us, and will be answered in the order that we feel like.” The headache of cancelling with the cable company is universal, and Saturday Night Live decided to put host Kieran Culkin through the nightmare in a hilarious sketch during last night’s episode. The clip started with the Succession star merely wanting to cancel his cable package, as he’d broken up with his girlfriend and was moving out. However, a group of hapless Spectrum employees were determined to make the process as difficult as possible — whether that meant Aidy Bryant’s Tanya asking for the “42-digit customer pin number that came on [his] first bill” or Mikey Day’s customer service rep in training transferring him to a Domino’s pizza guy. Along the way, Culkin is constantly offered a land-line upgra...

Saturday Night Live Season 47 Cast: Beck Bennett Leaving, Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman Join Ensemble

Plenty of familiar faces will greet viewers when Season 47 of Saturday Night Live bows on October 2nd. Nearly the full ensemble is returning, and two featured players have been upgraded to series regulars: Bowen Yang, who has been on the writing staff since 2018; and Chloe Fineman, who joined last year. At the same time, two actors will be ending their runs on the venerable sketch program: Lauren Holt, who is leaving the show after one season; and Beck Bennett, whose eight-season run in New York comes to an end as his career in Los Angeles continues to tick upwards. Bennett is currently a series regular on the stop-motion Marvel series M.O.D.O.K., and he said goodbye in an emotional Instagram post. “Love you, SNL,” he wrote. “Gonna miss you so much. Thank you for 8 years&nbs...
