WAEC registration: Kwara government warns principals against extortion
File Photo The Kwara Government has warned principals in public schools not to extort students during the registration of the upcoming West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) examination. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, gave the warning at a meeting with principals and stakeholders in the education sector of the state. She said it has come to the notice of the government that some schools are in the habit of charging more than the approved charges for WAEC examination. ”Henceforth, any principal found wanting will be dealt with in accordance with the Civil Service rules,” Mrs Adeosun warned. FIFA announces appointment of chief operating officers for Women’s World Cup 2023
On Tuesday, world football governing body, FIFA, announced the appointment of two Chief Operating Officers (COOs) in Australia and New Zealand respectively for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 that will be jointly hosted by both countries. Last year, the pair took up the initial appointment to lead the FIFA Women’s World Cup office in their respective host countries. Now, Jane Fernandez has officially been named as the COO for Australia, with the New Zealand COO position going to Jane Patterson, officially too. Senator threatens to join kinsmen in self defence against Fulani herdsmen

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has intensified consultations with stakeholders on the creation of new Polling Units (Pus), across the country. The Court of Appeal President, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, on Tuesday, harped on the need for female judges in the country to be united. Nations from around the world have written to the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) to express their dismay at the governing body’s failure to publish the list of candidates for forthcoming elections. The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Saturday, upheld the disqualification of Sir Chuwuma Ibezim as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Senatorial by-election held in Imo North on December 5, 2020. The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-man panel of Justices, affirmed the judgement of the Federal High Court in Abuja which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to remove Ibezim’s name from the list of candidates for the by-election, after it found him guilty of submitting falsified documents. The Confederation of African Football president Ahmad Ahmad has been cleared to contest the body’s elections, scheduled for March 12. The Malagasy official was handed a five-year ban and fined $200,000 by Fifa in November for breaching its code of conduct.
