It’s not time to go back outside just yet: Bo Burnham has today announced a deluxe box set of the music to Inside — his pandemic Netflix special from last year — as well as the recently-released The Inside Outtakes, which you can also watch on Netflix now. Inside (Deluxe) arrives on a triple-LP vinyl format, comprises songs like “Bezos I”, “All Eyes On Me,” “White Woman’s Instagram,” and all the other songs from Inside that made their way over to TikTok. In addition to the tracks you know and love, you’ll hear 13 new songs as well as 13 score tracks from both Inside and The Inside Outtakes. Burnham’s webstore will stock a limited number of autographed RGB-colored pressings, while Target and Urban Outfitters will each carry their own exclusive co...
Bo Burnham has shared 63 minutes of unreleased outtakes from his Emmy Award-winning comedy special, Inside. What’s more, a deluxe edition of the special’s companion album, Inside (The Songs), will be released on June 3rd. Burnham shared his quarantine special Inside in May 2021, and it quickly became a pandemic sensation. Filmed at the same house that Wes Craven used for the exterior of A Nightmare on Elm Street, the special was less a traditional comedy special than a musical exploration of an unravelling mind. It went on to win Emmy Awards for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Music Direction, and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media for “All Eyes on Me.” Consequence also honored Burnham by...
Our 2021 Annual Report continues with the announcement of Bo Burnham as our Comedian of the Year. As the year winds down, stay tuned for more awards, lists, and articles about the best music, film, and TV of 2021. You can find it all in one place here. There’s a moment of context in Bo Burnham’s Inside where things start to click in a different way, and the whole special gets cast in a new light. At the end of the first verse and chorus of “All Eyes on Me,” Burnham describes making the decision to return to stand up comedy after a four-year hiatus from the form. In a supremely ironic fashion, he made this decision in January 2020, finally deciding that he was ready to be vulnerable in front of an audience again — all before a global shutdown. Hindsight is (clears throat) 20/20, but regardl...
Constant dread, an inability to tell waking from sleeping, and the fear that you’re going insane: Bo Burnham’s Inside and Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street already had a lot in common. Add location to that list, because as it turns out, Burnham filmed his new comedy special at the same house that Craven used for the exterior of 1428 Elm Street. The revelation comes not from Burnham or anyone who worked on Craven’s film, but rather from that most modern of American pastimes: using Redfin to gawk at houses you can’t afford. A Los Angeles listing proudly advertised that, “Cinephiles will immediately recognize Wes Craven’s iconic Elm Street facade.” But to eagle-eyed internet sleuths, the inside (or should that be Inside?) looked familiar, too. Message b...
For the 64th year running, the trophy for least intelligible award show goes to the Grammys. As Billboard reports, the Recording Academy has declared Bo Burnham‘s Inside (The Songs) ineligible to compete for Best Comedy Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards. Burnham shared his quarantine opus Inside in March, and it quickly became a pandemic sensation. Less a traditional comedy special than a musical exploration of an unravelling mind, it captured the zeitgeist a second time when Inside (The Songs) dropped in June. The special has already taken home trophies at other, more reputable award shows, including Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Writing, and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special at the 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards. A Best Comedy Album Grammy for ...
On her current tour, Phoebe Bridgers has dazzled crowds across the country. One song in her set that she’s weaved in has been a cover of Bo Burnham’s “That Funny Feeling” during the encore of her sets. Additionally, Bridgers performed the Inside track with Burnham at a show at Los Angeles’ Largo at the Coronet in August. Now, there’s a recorded version to go along with it, which you can grab here. As part of Bandcamp Friday, Bridges shared a studio version of the song that she recorded in Los Angeles with a slew of musicians, including Tony Berg, Ethan Gruska, Christian Lee Hutson, Harrison Whitford, Rob Moose, Sebastian Steinberg, Marshall Vore, Nate Walcott and Maria Taylor. Proceeds from the song will go to Texas Abortion Funds and will be split evenly between Texas Equal Access Fund, T...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-06-08T22:12:38+00:00“>June 8, 2021 | 6:12pm ET At the end of last month, Bo Burnham surprised fans by releasing Inside, his first comedy special in five years. It’s less of a traditional Netflix standup special than it is an experimental look at quarantine’s highs, lows, and the dark comedy that lies in between. It’s held up by a number of catchy songs that Burnham created himself, and it turns out those tracks are about to get a proper album release later this week. As The Hollywood Reporter points out, Burnham will put Inside (The Songs) on music streaming platforms this Thursday, June 10th. It will include songs that have already become fan-favorites for their discussion of capit...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-28T22:12:45+00:00“>April 28, 2021 | 6:12pm ET Bo Burnham has returned to announce his first comedy special in five years, Inside. Via Variety, the musical stand-up event is “almost finished” and slated to premiere on Netflix. Burnham shared the news on Twitter alongside a short clip of Inside. “hi. i made a new special,” he wrote. “it was filmed by me, alone, without a crew or an audience, over the course of the past year. it is almost finished. i hope you like it.” The teaser begins where his 2016 special Make Happy ended: with a clean shaven Burnham playing a beautiful, solemn melody on his piano. The moment is interrupted by a smash cut to the same room five years la...
