Travis Barker confirmed that Blink-182 will drop a new record in 2021 and that it will feature Grimes, Lil Uzi Vert and Pharrell. Guesting on the show Rock This with Allison Hagendorf, the drummer also revealed that the band is “60 percent” done and “slowly finishing up this album,” which is the follow-up to 2019’s NINE. He says, “There’s a lot of cool stuff, like a song with Grimes right now that’s really, really cool that I love. There’s a song with Uzi that’s really, really cool that we did with Pharrell.” Barker was on the program alongside rapper-turned-rocker Trippie Redd, to talk about why they HAD to collaborate (most recently with SPIN cover subject Machine Gun Kellly and blackbear) and more. Former Blink-182 singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge has made his fascination for UFO’s clear, so it’s only fitting that he’s making his directorial debut with a sci-fi feature film called Monsters of California. Deadline reports that DeLonge is directing the coming-of-age film from an original script he wrote with Ian Miller. DeLonge will write and perform the movie’s original score. Mad About You and Curb Your Enthusiasm actor Richard Kind, Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers), Arianne Zucker (Days of Our Lives) and Sports Illustrated model Camille Kostek will all feature in the film. The plot is a coming-of-age adventure with a science fiction twist that follows teenager Dallas Edwards, played by newcomer Jack Samson, and his derelict friends on a quest for the meaning behind a series...
The year 2000 looms large in pop culture history: the Y2k non-scare, the Seinfeld “Newmannium” episode, the “In the Year 2000″ sketch from Conan O’Brien’s original late-night show, the Hulu series PEN15. And just like, say, the grunge-defined 1991, the year immediately conjures specific sounds: gleaming teen-pop, earnest radio rock, the Neptunes and Timbaland. There’s never a bad time to revisit this music. But in the middle of a pandemic, with America on the verge of collapse, it feels extra comforting — a blast of nostalgia for a time when you could safely exit your home, visit your local mall’s Sam Goody and buy Mystikal’s “Shake Ya Ass” CD single. For this list, our only criteria was that the songs appear on albums or soundtracks released in 2000. Here we go. 50. Papa Roach, “Last Reso...
While fans wait for more new Angels & Airwaves material, vocalist Tom Delonge will shift his focus from music later this month when he’ll appear virtually at Metaverse — REEDPOP’s comic conference. In a panel called “Can Blink 182’s Tom DeLonge Uncover US Government UFO Secrets?” Delonge will be putting on his UFO expert hat and will speak with former intelligence officer and fellow UFO hunter Luis Elizondo about what else — aliens and space. All the small things, like Metaverse and aliens… Join Tom DeLonge (Blink 182) & Luis Elizondo (former head of AATIP) as they try to make sense of outer space, and shed new light on UFOs around the world, Aug 16 in the #ReedPopMetaverse https://t.co/6iFws85O7Q pic.twitter.com/gTnUhq8GhF — Ne...
Blink-182 released their new single, “Quarantine,” today amid the usual flurry of New Music Friday releases. Listen below. The song, first announced on Wednesday via the band’s Twitter, arrives less than a year after the release of their most recent LP, Nine. “Quarantine” is a return to form of sorts for the trio after spending much of the Matt Skiba era partnering with artists outside of their usual genre (Lil Wayne, Steve Aoki, the Chainsmokers) and making time for their various other projects. Mark Hoppus sums up almost everyone’s feelings when he sings “I thought that 2019 was fucked up.” Listen to the song below. It also suggests that their upcoming EP — possibly featuring artists like Lil Uzi Vert and Pharrell Williams — might actually ...
Oliver Tree released a one-of-a-kind remix of his hit “Let Me Down” alongside his personal childhood heroes, blink-182. It’s a pleasantly unexpected combination that sees the pop punk veterans woven seamlessly into the mix. As always, Travis Barker‘s drive is unmatched, bringing a punchy drum performance that is irreproducible. Meanwhile, Mark Hoppus goes back and forth with Tree and chimes in with a new verse of his own that perfectly complements the source material. The band builds upon the existing instrumental infrastructure, whipping it up into a vigorous punk rework. The original version of the song, produced by Whethan, appeared on Oliver Tree’s debut album Ugly is Beautiful earlier this year. It was the latest offering from t...
Best Coast will mark the 10th anniversary of their debut, Crazy for You, by releasing a pre-filmed quarantine performance of the record — their first time playing it in full. The film features several guests, including Paramore’s Hayley Williams, Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, and Chvrches’ Lauren Mayberry. The Crazy for You “birthday party” is set for August 14 at 6 pm PST / 9 pm EST. The video will be archived for ticket buyers to watch for 72 hours after its premiere. Tickets are on sale now, and any tips will be donated to the Loveland Foundation, which strives to “bring opportunity and healing to communities of color, and especially to Black women and girls” through “fellowships, residency programs, listening tours, and more.” “Crazy for You truly changed my life,” singer-songwrit...
Somehow, some way, the year is just about halfway over. Blink-182 marked the 182nd day of the year with a surprise. The group dropped a new five-song EP titled, Dogs Eating Dogs, on Tuesday (June 30) along with special merch that will only be available for one week. “It’s the 182nd day of the year! To celebrate 182 day, we decided to press a limited number of Dogs Eating Dogs vinyl for the first time ever,” the band wrote on their social accounts. “There’s also a sweet limited Dogs merch collection which will only be available for one week.” The one problem? The limited-edition vinyl is already sold out. If you’re bummed out by that, have a look at Mark Hoppus saving a deer from being trapped in a lake, that will hopefully make you feel better. See Blink-182’s Instagram announcement below....
Mark Hoppus has done a lot in his music career and beyond, but now he can say that’s a true friend to deer. Confused? Don’t be. In an Instagram post, the Blink-182 bassist/singer shared that while he was cruising around Redfish Lake in Idaho, he discovered a deer that somehow managed to end up in the said lake. “No idea how it got there. It was panicked, shivering, panting, tired, swimming in circles. I got on the swim step and we pulled up alongside it and I was able to get my arms around the bottom of its neck and tried to pull it up but it was too heavy,” Hoppus explained in the post, which was accompanied by a video of the incident. “So for twenty minutes we slowly shepherded this deer across the lake, like herding goats in Twilight Princess, to the nearest shore. We got there and the ...
