The Blades make the trip knowing that their recent good form has been enough to see them climb up to 11th in the league standings. With multiple games in hand on all their promotion rivals, Paul Heckingbottom’s side is perfectly poised to make a run at the playoff spots. Birmingham, on the other hand, have underperformed this season. The Blues are 17th in the Championship table, 13 points ahead of teams in the bottom four but equally adrift from the teams challenging for promotion at the top of the league. Lee Bowyer’s side needs to put a string of performances together to salvage its season, and what better place to begin than back at St. Andrew’s, in front of the passionate home su...

Birmingham City news: Amad Diallo to join Lee Bowyer’s side on loan

According to a report from 90MIN, Manchester United’s Amad Diallo will join Birmingham City on loan for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.  The 19-year-old is struggling for game time at Old Trafford this campaign, having made only a single appearance for the Red Devils. However, he clocked up eight appearances for United last season.   Now the youngster is set to join Birmingham where he can get regular first-team action.  Amad Diallo will be the third United player to head to the St Andrew’s stadium on loan this season.  Tahith Chong made the move to the Blues in the summer while Teden Mengi completed his loan deal earlier this month.  The Ivorian footballer started his senior career at Atalanta before completing his transfer to Manchester United in Januar...

QPR, Middlesbrough and Birmingham after Premier League striker with 170 career goals

Three Championship clubs are in the race to sign Watford striker Andre Gray, reports journalist Pete O’Rourke on Twitter. Gray arrived at Watford from Burnley back in August 2017, signing for a then-club record fee believed to be around £18 million. The Jamaica international hasn’t lived up to expectations at Vicarage Road. In 126 appearances for the Hornets, he has scored just 21 goals in all competitions, including only five in 30 last season as they were promoted from the Championship. Gray has struggled at Watford Nonetheless, he has proven in the past that he is capable of scoring goals in the second tier. In the 2015/16 season, he won the Championship Golden Boot and Player of the Year, scoring 23 and helping Burnley to the league title. He followed this up with a respectable nine go...

QPR and Birmingham amongst the dark horses in the Championship

There are usually six teams expected to challenge for promotion at the beginning of the Championship season – the three teams who have just been relegated from the Premier League, and the three who missed out on promotion through the play-offs. Of course, it’s not always the relegated sides and play-off teams who contest for promotion. Every season, there are usually a few sides who climb from mid-table obscurity and get themselves in the frame for the top spots. Dark Horses Queens Park Rangers are one of the sides gaining some attention. They finished in ninth place last campaign, but that doesn’t tell the full story. Their first half of the season was a bit of a nightmare, and they found themselves in a relegation battle. But this all changed with the arrivals of Charlie Austin, Sam Fiel...

Fulham and West Brom stars tipped to shine in the Championship

While the ultimate goal of the Championship season is promotion to the Premier League, the Golden Boot race is always an interesting sub-plot. Expect this season to be no different, with a number of proven goalscorers looking to make their mark once again. The current leading candidate appears to be Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, and it’s not particularly difficult to see why. He is the only player in the second tier who already has a Championship Golden Boot to his name, having hit 26 back in the 2019/20 season. Mitrovic has a fantastic record in the Championship Last season wasn’t an easy one for the Serbian, scoring just three league goals in 27 outings. However, his record in the Championship with Fulham is nothing short of excellent, bagging 36 in 57 for the Whites. The most likely to ...

Derby send Sheffield Wednesday down, Hammers target bags second successive treble

Derby County narrowly avoided relegation on a dramatic final day in the Championship. The Rams twice came from behind to secure a 3-3 draw against Sheffield Wednesday at Pride Park to escape the drop at the expense of their opponents. Martyn Waghorn (2) and Patrick Roberts were on target for Derby, while Sam Hutchinson, Callum Paterson and Julian Borner replied for the visitors. Rotherham United were on course to survive after Lewis Wing put them ahead at Cardiff City, but Marlon Pack’s late strike sent them tumbling back into League One after just one season. Wycombe Wanderers also made an immediate return to the third tier despite recording a 3-0 victory at Middlesbrough – Fred Onyedinma, Garath McCleary and Jason McCarthy got the goals. At the other end of the table, the line-up for the...
