Following her disco ball-swinging performance at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards, Miley Cyrus filmed a set for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, which included a cover of Billie Eilish’s latest track, “My Future.” Surrounded by candles and her masked band, Cyrus brought a jazzy vibe to the pop track that was almost Amy Winehousesque. And unlike Eilish’s light and airy vocals, Cyrus brings some grit and improvised vocals runs to her version of the tune. [embedded content] She also performed “Midnight Sky,” which she performed at the MTV VMAs a couple of days previously. Cyrus also did “Slide Away,” which she brought to the same awards show last year. While it seems that Cyrus is ready to come back with more live-streamed or filmed performances, she did previously perform a couple of times in 2020....
With many, including the NPR Music staff, working from home, musicians have been recording themselves performing the iconic Tiny Desk sets themselves. Whether it’s been in their homes or in the Caribbean, fans have been treated to a variety of looks in the series. But Billie Eilish and Finneas brought us back to tradition — kind of. In the latest episode of Tiny Desk at-home, they are seen sitting in what looks like the NPR Music office in Washington, D.C. However, as editor Stephen Thompson explained, “the NPR Music staff can’t set foot in the building that houses Bob Boilen’s desk.” So what happened? After performing “My Future” and “Everything I Wanted,” the camera starts to pan out and show that it’s actually a set that was built to look like the original Tiny Desk set up. And what we ...
This year may be a disaster for the music biz, but that doesn’t (obviously) mean that 2019 wasn’t. Last year, a number of artists made a shit-ton of money on the strength of touring. Before starting her performance, she not only shared her thoughts about the importance of voting but also what’s at stake. She said: “You don’t need me to tell you that things are a mess. Donald Trump is destroying our country and everything we care about. We need leaders who will solve problems like climate change and COVID[-19], not deny them. Leaders who will fight against systemic racism and inequality and that starts by voting for someone who understands how much is at stake. Someone who’s building a team that shares our values. It starts with voting against Donald Trump and for Joe Biden. Silence is not an option, and we cannot...

After teasing “my future” since last week, Billie Eilish finally released her beautifully eerie new song. The singer’s brother/producer/co-writer Finneas revealed in March that they were working on new material. “We’ve started working on the new album, and I think the best thing we can do is stay out of our own way,” he told Vulture. “The first album was pretty pure in its intention. We didn’t set out to write a darling album. Our only target ...
