The furry feline cover star of Best Coast‘s 2010 debut Crazy For You, the beloved Snacks, who was the cat owned by band member Bethany Cosentino, has died. The ginger Snacks also graced the cover of Wavves’ King Of The Beach, and was most recently featured on the cover art for Best Coast’s newest single “Leading.” “I always knew this day would come, but I hoped it never would. I said goodbye to my angel baby Snacks this afternoon,” Cosentino wrote on Instagram. “He was not just my cat. He belonged to all of you. He was the third member of this band. Our mascot. Our cover star. Our merch king.” She continued: He meant everything to me and I’m going to miss him so much, but I know he will live on forever by way of the legacy he created simply by being himself. He loved you all so m...
Third Eye Blind fans can step back from that ledge, as the pop-rockers just released a new single from their upcoming album, Our Bande Apart (out September 24 via Megacollider Records). But not only is “Again” the latest track and video revealed by the ’90s chart-toppers, and it also features an appearance from Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino. “It’s noteworthy that I wrote this blissed out shoegaze song during the most lockdown part of the pandemic,” vocalist Stephan Jenkins tells SPIN. “As I was writing it, I could just hear Bethany’s voice, so I feel so fortunate that she was down to sing on it with us. This record was made with all of us playing together in the same room after being away from each other for a long time. To me, it sounds like a bunch of people who love each other excited ...
Eight months after the release of their fourth album, Always Tomorrow, Best Coast are giving fans of the album a well-deserved treat. On Friday, the L.A.-based duo dropped a new live EP, Live at World Cafe, comprising tracks from the first live performance of the album and a few more from California Nights. “Today we share with you a new live EP from a show we played at World Cafe in Philadelphia in early 2020 before Always Tomorrow came out,” singer Bethany Cosentino said in a statement. “It was the first time we played new songs for fans, and the first time we stepped on stage as a full band in a really long time. 2020 obviously went a lil crazy and we were forced to put everything on pause, but we hope this Live At World Cafe EP will make you feel like you’re hanging with us....
Best Coast has shared a new 2020 version of their hit single, “Boyfriend.” As part of the Bandcamp Friday, Best Coast re-recorded and changed the pronouns on the 10-year-old track to make it more inclusive. “In the decade since writing this song,” Bethany Cosentino said about the song in a statement. “I have had a lot of time to reflect on not only that obsession, but the way in which I have at times, glorified obsessive and toxic romantic relationships in my songwriting. This song in particular started to feel problematic to me around the time I really started working on myself at age 30. I would listen back to my lyrics and think about how much I was neglecting myself and how I made this guy the protagonist of my own life and story.” She continued, ...

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, movie theaters have taken a huge but obvious hit. People can’t go to theaters (for now) and thus, have resorted to watching old movies…at least in most cases. On May 15, Scoob!, the latest live-action adaptation of the Scooby-Doo franchise landed on streamers and VOD (video-on-demand) services. The soundtrack is full of surprises as well, with contributions from country star Thomas Rhett and in-demand mixtape annihilator Rico Nasty. And one of the more fun aspects of a fun movie is that Best Coast performed a new version of the cartoon’s iconic theme song. But considering their retro-pop bona fides, it actually makes a lot of sense. We caught up with Best Coast singer-songwriter Bethany Cosentino, who explained how it all came togethe...
