Bauhaus lead singer Peter Murphy will be entering a rehabilitation facility, necessitating the cancellation of the legendary U.K. band’s upcoming North American tour dates. The 15-date trek was scheduled to begin Sept. 6 in Toronto and close in Los Angeles on Sept. 29. The tour’s two New York-area dates at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre on Sept. 8-9 were were postponed from November 2021 due to visa issues. Bauhaus kicked off its 2022 roadwork in May at the Cruel World festival in Pasadena, Calif., and performed a few west coast dates before heading to Europe. Its last performance was Aug. 27 in Vilar de Mouros, Portugal, which apparently went off without incident. SPIN reviewed the tour’s “chaotic and thrilling” first headlining show at Portland’s Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, which noted, “th...
This was meant to be a 5 Albums I Can’t Live Without column, but Daniel had another idea… ‘See the thing is, what I was thinking would be much more fun for me, and I could really get my teeth into, would be the five motorcycles I couldn’t live without.’ Name Daniel Ash Best known for I suppose I’m known for using an EBow with a guitar or what’s called a sustainer. I use that extensively. I use it a lot in all the bands, just where it sustains their note. Current location California. Really want to be in I’ve got a quote from Steve McQueen, I try to relate to 100%: “I would rather wake up in the middle of nowhere than in any city on earth.” That’s an actual quote from him and I completely agree. Not into big cities. I like the wilderness and I love traveling on my...
The tone for the evening was established early. Peter Murphy stormed the stage, scepter in hand, before the house lights could be dimmed. “Let’s get going,” he shouted at his bandmates. “Fuck the lights.” The occasion was the opening night of Bauhaus’ 2022 U.S. tour — a short run of dates that sticks to the West Coast during the month of May before the post-punk icons reconvene in September for a pair of shows in New York City — and the temperamental frontman was anxious to get things underway. Only two other members of Bauhaus — drummer Kevin Haskins and guitarist Daniel Ash — heeded Murphy’s call as they ambled through John Cale’s “Rosegarden Funeral of Sores.” The trio played for a good two minutes before bassist David J showed up. He threw his instrument on and spent the rest of the so...

After a fourteen-year-long wait, Bauhaus is back. The goth-rock pioneers released their first single since 2008’s Go Away White, a new song called “Drink The New Wine.” The lockdown was a creative time for Bauhaus. The new song was written during quarantine by the four members sharing audio files. In a technique the band has used before, the song was constructed by the exquisite corpse device used by surrealist artists, where each musician contributes to the track without knowing what the others have done. Bauhaus is also slated to hit the road this summer. They most recently added another show on May 21 at The Masonic in San Francisco, and tickets for the concert go on sale at 10 a.m. PT on Friday, March 25. After their May tour of several U.S. cities, they’ll perform a two-night run...
