Bianca Foley is an influencer and sustainable fashion expert who we follow closely because she’s super-skilled at bringing together style with more conscious ways to consume. From amazing secondhand pieces and inspiring ways to rewear, through to her thoughts around rental, alterations and new sustainable brands, Foley is our go-to girl both via her Instagram (@biancaffoley) and via the podcast she co-hosts, Sustainably Influenced. For the next three months she’ll be sharing her intel with you, starting with her journey from self-confessed fashion addict to a more sensible shopper… I started my journey with ethical consumption about 8 years ago, just as I was getting into the blogging space. At that time, it was trendy for everyone to post their daily #ootd ...
Turns out I was looking too far afield, and the dream shirt was under my nose at H&M the whole time. When I noticed recently the brand’s oversized cotton shirt was one of our all-time best sellers on Who What Wear, I had to try for myself and see what all the fuss was about. Turns out 1149 (and counting) of you weren’t wrong, and this simple piece is just what I was searching for—just in time for spring. It comes in a variety of options: with pockets and without, shorter and longer lengths, and plus-size options, too. And there are so many colours to choose from. My favourites are the classic blue, white and pinstriped. I might even consider dipping my toe into the bold brights after reading this article. Either way, it’s likely there’ll be one that...
The general theory I stick to is if you’re going loose on the bottom, keep it more streamlined up top. So things like Arket’s merino roll-neck and crew-neck are going to be your heroes with wide-leg trousers. They work really well alone, or you can always layer over knitted vests or matching suit blazers. Having a fitted base will just maintain that polish. In summer, switch roll-necks for ribbed vests, which offer the same proportions, and for a more casual look, a simple, fresh T-shirt (Arket, again, does my favourite one) will always work. Following those same principles, classic looser button-down shirts look great with slimmer-fitting pant styles like tapered or skinny ones, but they’re the one exception to the rule when it comes to wide-leg trousers. Since th...
The world of Instagram is a funny place – one minute we’re liking a picture of a puppy, the next we’re delving into someone’s living room interiors and in quick succession, we’re shopping. We have everything at our fingertips, and something we will always appreciate (as well as cute pets) is the ability to find outfit inspiration in a flash. Whether it’s how to dress like a French girl or the latest colour combinations to try out, there’s no shortage of ways to click refresh on your wardrobe. And let’s face it, during winter, this is more necessary than ever. So, what if we were to tell you an item you most likely already own is the key to winter dressing? Or if you don’t, then you can get it for the same price as a large glass of vino in a London bar? Well, the humble blac...
As fashion editors we can be guilty of neglecting the ‘sensible’ foundations of our wardrobe, and dedicating our attention (and spending money) towards more exciting purchases, such as dresses for weddings or party shoes. However every now and then our collection of staples deserves a little TLC too, whether that’s a new pair of leggings or loungewear that we will actually be excited to wear. The thing about basics is that even though they might be simple and practical, you need to pay extra attention to the design and detailing to ensure they will last and elevate your outfits. A poorly fitting T-shirt or sagging pair of leggings can really change the whole vibe of an outfit, and so can require an extra attention to detail. Gilly Hicks ...

I’m one of those summer people who prefer winter clothes. Let me explain: While I love the feeling of the sun on my skin, barbecues and longer days that the warmer months bring, I get the most joy from autumn/winter outfits. Playing around with layers, embracing cosy knits and picking The One when it comes to a winter coat are all part of the fun. But I sometimes (read: always) choose to take the easy option when it comes to getting dressed for cold-weather days, and this begins with affordable wardrobe basics. While I still look to my classic capsule wardrobe pieces—the white shirt, oversized blazer and good-quality T-shirt, to name a few—my winter basics are all about being comfy and cosy, but this doesn’t mean boring. There’s no rule that basics have to be neutral or that th...
