On Renegades: Born In the U.S.A., an eight-episode podcast, Obama and Springsteen reunited for intimate chats on race, fatherhood, marriage and the state of America. “There were serious conversations about the fate of the country, the fortune of its citizens, and the destructive, ugly, corrupt forces at play that would like to take it all down,” writes Springsteen in his introduction for the forthcoming book. “This is a time of vigilance when who we are is being seriously tested. Hard conversations about who we are and who we want to become can perhaps serve as a small guiding map for some of our fellow citizens,” he continues. “This is a time for serious consideration of who we want to be and what kind of country we will leave our children.” Obama and Springsteen first met back in 2008, a...

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden on Saturday announced the passing of their German shepherd Champ, who they called a “constant, cherished companion” for 13 years. “In our most joyful moments and in our most grief-stricken days, he was there with us, sensitive to our every unspoken feeling and emotion. We love our sweet, good boy and will miss him always,” the Bidens said in a statement. Champ was one of two German shepherds living at the White House with the president and first lady. Biden got Champ in 2008, the year he was elected vice president under President Barack Obama. Champ lived alongside Major, who the Bidens adopted in November 2018 and became the first rescue dog to live in the White House. Major had to be briefly removed from the premises after two incidents of ni...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Bloomberg / Getty Our forever President Barack Obama kept it cordial in public when it comes to the orange menace, Donald Trump, but according to a new book, behind closed doors was completely another story. As spotted on Raw Story, in excerpts obtained The Guardian from a new book titled, Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats’ Campaigns to Defeat Donald Trump written by The Atlantic staff writer Edward-Isaac Dovere, Barack Obama pretty much felt how we all felt about Donald Trump in private. The excerpts reveal that Obama kept it all the way real about Trump calling “madman,” a “racist, sexist pig,” “that f*cking lunatic,” and a “corrupt motherf*cker.” Per Raw Story: “He’s a madman,” Obama said, according to Dovere. “More often: ‘I didn’t ...
The U.S. Senate has confirmed Adewale Wally Adeyemo as Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, making him the first Nigerian-American to hold the powerful job. Adeyemo, 39, has struck a hardline tone on China, vowing to fight what he called Beijing’s “unfair economic practices” and hold China accountable to international rules. He is expected to play a key role in shaping U.S. economic policy on issues ranging from financial regulation to relief for everyday Americans and U.S. sanctions on foreign governments. A former senior adviser at asset manager BlackRock Inc and the child of Nigerian immigrants, Adeyemo served as a top national security and economic adviser to Democratic former President Barack Obama and held senior jobs at the Treasury. The Senate on Thursday confirmed Adeyemo on a voice ...
Source: NurPhoto / Getty Barack Obama has been busy since leaving the White House but the 44th President of the United States still has an impact on the culture at large. By way of a new podcast with Rock legend Bruce Springsteen, Obama shared a story of how he broke a friend’s nose who called a coon on the basketball court. Obama and Springsteen have paired up for the Spotify podcast series Renegades: Born In The USA, where the two men seemingly with little in common on paper are actually aligned more than any of their supporters or fans would know. With frank tales about their different upbringings and challenging discussions on race while living in America, Obama landed on a story about living in Hawaii as a teenager and the interaction where he was met with the derogatory term. This ca...

Source: Smith Collection/Gado / Getty President Joe Biden has had a busy first week in office, reversing problematic Trump-era executive orders, but it seems that one item on his agenda stems from his friend and our forever President, Barack Obama‘s, mission to get Harriet Tubman as the new face of the twenty-dollar bill. According to the White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, Biden’s Treasury is looking to speed up the process to add abolitionist and freedom fighter Harriet Tubman to the $20 bill, adding that such accomplishment is a proper step in reflecting the country’s “history and diversity.” “The Treasury Department is taking steps to resume efforts to put Harriet Tubman on the front of the new $20 notes,” Psaki said in the press conference. . “It’s important that our notes reflect...
