There’s something so exceptionally liberating about running. No matter where you may be in the world, all you need is a decent pair of footwear and you are free to explore wherever the fuck your restless limbs and whims take you. There is also something that’s very punk rock about the sport/obsession as well. Maybe it’s that DIY attitude when navigating local streets, trails and/or alleyways, taking whichever corner or direction that pulls you in that moment. Or maybe it’s the empowering sovereignty to choose your own route and destiny, without any walls or shackles to keep you contained or hold you back. Maybe that’s why running has become the passion of many musicians who wave the punk flag, resonating with those who have experienced the natural buzz and benefits of this beautifully simpl...
Somehow, some way, it’s baseball season again. Yes, already. Last year’s abbreviated run saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Tampa Bay Rays in six games to win their first World Series title in 32 years, something that Ben Gibbard predicted in our 2020 preview. As you can imagine, Dodgers fans — especially the ones below — are in great spirits heading into the 2021 season. So what does that mean about this year? Absolutely nothing. As COVID restrictions start to loosen and with more fans allowed back into stadiums, excitement is beginning to buzz, especially with our group of experts. Bad Religion, the long-running Los Angeles purveyors of humanistic punk, just released “What Are We Standing For,” an outtake from their 2019 album, Age Of Unreason. Prior to “What Are We Standing For,” they shared a demo version of the record’s “Lose Your Head” and a symphonic take on “Faith Alone.” Bad Religion, a prolific touring act, are doing t...
The punk legends in Bad Religion released a new, symphonic take on one of their classic tracks. Rather than the traditional combination of two guitars, a bass, and drums backing Greg Graffin’s vocals, the iconic singer is alone with a piano for the beginning of “Faith Alone” (originally on 1990’s Against the Grain) before being joined by strings. Considering the track’s chorus of “faith alone won’t sustain us anymore,” the 30-year-old tune is prophetically appropriate to revamp for the chaos that 2020 has brought — and it even makes use of appropriate social distancing as Graffin, Bad Religion co-mastermind Brett Gurewitz, drummer Jamie Miller, one-man orchestra Stevie Blacke (Beck, Lady Gaga, Garbage), and producer Carlos de la Garza recorded the entire...
