Black Panther: Wakanda Forever followed with five nods; Avatar: The Way of Water was next up, with four. Top Gun: Maverick did better in the nominations than the first Top Gun, which received just four nods. Also, this sequel rated a best picture nod, something that was denied the 1986 blockbuster that made Tom Cruise a superstar. But the aforementioned sequels to Black Panther and Avatar moved i...

Austin Butler Responds to Comments He Talks Like Elvis at Golden Globes: ‘I Don’t Think I Sound Like Him Still’

People are talking about how Austin Butler is talking. At the Golden Globes Tuesday (Jan. 10), however, the 31-year-old actor responded to comments regarding how his voice has changed since playing The King in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic, specifically addressing those who have been poking fun at him in recent months for supposedly keeping up the deep Southern drawl he learned for the movie long after it wrapped. “I don’t think I sound like him still,” he said in the awards show’s press room after winning best actor, drama motion picture for his performance in Elvis. “But I guess I must because I hear it a lot. I often liken it to when somebody lives in another country for a long time.” “I had three years where that was my only focus in life, so I’m sure there’s just pieces of my DNA that w...

In a new interview with Jimmy Kimmel, however, the 31-year-old actor revealed that it was anything but. Appearing Monday night (Jan. 9) on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Butler opened up about the stresses that came with the two-year process of getting Elvis’ every move, note and mannerism exactly right for the film. “I would usually wake up every day around 3 or 4 in the morning with this terror,” he confessed. “It was just such a daunting thing,” he added. “I really was just guided by my terror.” The Carrie Diaries alum — whose performance is up for best actor at Tuesday night’s (Jan. 10) Golden Globes — also shed some light on the pr...
