The National Television Awards, more commonly known as the NTAs, returned on 5 September as the who's who of the small screen descended upon London's o2 Arena with hopes of winning the top prizes. Hosted by Joel Dommett, whose wife Hannah Cooper is due to give birth any day now, the evening always promises make us smile. All awards are voted for by the public and there was some fierce competition. "The Traitors" faced "Love Island" in the best reality competition, "Queen Charlotte" took on "Wednesday" for best new drama, and Alison Hammond was up against 43-time NTA winners Ant and Dec for best presenter. While the focus of the night might be on the awards themselves, we all know the real scoop is on the red carpet. Holly Willoughby arrived in a lilac strapless gown while "Strictly Come D...
The 2021 British Independent Film Awards were held at Old Billingsgate in London on 5 Dec. to honour 2021’s most innovative and creative independent filmmaking and filmmakers in the UK. And whilst the focus of the evening was on the incredible films and talented actors, directors, and screenplay writers, the nominees and guests used the opportunity to show off some incredible style. The BIFA red carpet was full of luxurious, sumptuous fabrics that felt spot on for the festive season, like the midnight blue velvet suit worn by Ruth Wilson and the sapphire-coloured velvet gown worn by Alice Eve. There were plenty of glamorous metallic dresses, like Gugu Mbatha_Raw’s shimmering beige dress and Alesha Dixon’s black-and-gold number, whilst Kate Beckinsale and Lauryn Ajufo step...
After going virtual last year, the 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards were held in-person in Budapest, Hungary, at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna. Hosted by American rapper Saweetie, the awards saw a long list of the world’s best musicians — both nominated and in attendance — with Ed Sheeran, Maluma, Måneskin, Yungblud, Kim Petras, and Griff all performing live. And while the performances are amazing, one of the other exciting aspects of the EMAs was the celebrity fashion, and as with many music award shows, they did not disappoint. Rita Ora brought glamour to the red carpet in a black jumpsuit with a feathered bodice and feathered train. Griff went for her signature cute aesthetic, and wore a pastel two-piece set with ornate lace, pearl, and silk details. We loved that Maluma went fo...
After multiple delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2021 National Television Awards are finally here. Originally scheduled to take place in January, the ceremony — which honours the best of the best of British television — was delayed twice until a September date was eventually set. Hosted by The Masked Singer‘s Joel Dommett, the event took place on 8 Sept. at the O2 Arena in London and aired live on ITV. The NTAs brought out some of the UK’s biggest TV stars, and honoured 2021’s most-talked about shows, including It’s a Sin, which won for best new drama, The Great British Bake Off, which in addition to saving us during lockdown won the award for best challenge show, and Line of Duty, which took home two awards out of the four it was nominated for. But like a...
With summer coming to an end and in-person events picking back up again (we can’t believe the Met Gala is only two weeks away!), London saw its first fête in the form of British GQ’s Men of the Year Awards held at the Tate Modern. Hosted by Sabrina and Idris Elba, the awards ceremony aim to celebrate people who made the world a better place over the past 12 months. It should come as no surprise that Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford and actor John Boyega are both on the list — the former for his free school meals campaign for children over the summer holidays, the latter for using his voice and his profile during the Black Lives Matter protests last summer. I May Destroy You writer and actor Michaela Coel is also nominated, as is Paul Mescal for his role in Normal Pe...
Opera gloves were the unexpected accessory of choice at the 2021 BRIT Awards. Held live from London’s O2 Arena on Tuesday, 11 May, some of the best dressed stars on the red carpet had a few things in common: pastel ruffles, neon gowns, and “COVID friendly” accessories like designer masks, socially distanced headpieces, and opera gloves that completed a co-ordinated look. Two of the most memorable outfits on the red carpet came from Mabel and Raye. The singers wore body-hugging neon gowns with Mabel in lime green, Raye in fuchsia, and long elegant opera gloves to match. Jessie Ware and Lianne La Havas also chose opera gloves to complete their looks, but instead went for a more minimal palette of black and animal print. It makes so much sense why opera gloves are so popular...
With Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards each expecting their first child, the girls coordinated their outfits with Jade Thirlwall and wore matching white gowns to the 2021 BRIT Awards, where they won Best British Group — the first-ever woman group to do so. Leigh-Anne went for a semisheer gown by Maison Margiela, Perrie wore a coordinated set by David Koma, and Jade completed the trio in a gorgeous Vivienne Westwood gown. “We’re gonna form a mini group,” Perrie joked about her baby bump with host AJ Odudu on the BRIT Awards red carpet live stream. After being asked which designers each Little Mixer was wearing, Leigh-Anne said, “I’m wearing Margiela.” Jade added, “I’m wearing Vivienne Westwood, darling!” and Perrie...
While we were all staying safe during lockdown, Taylor Swift was busy releasing three whole albums. To honour her hard work and hustle, the Lover, Folklore, and Evermore singer accepted the 2021 BRIT award for global icon in a sparkling Miu Miu co-ordinated set. “I want to thank the BRITs or anyone who thought that I would be worthy of this incredible honour,” Swift said while accepting her BRIT Award. “I’m really really proud to be a part of this musical community. Especially in a year when we all needed music so much.” Swift’s sparkling, custom Miu Miu ensemble featured a spaghetti-strap bralette crop top with clear beaded floral embroidery, a matching high-waist pencil skirt, shoes by Miu Miu, Jessica McCormack earrings, Sophie Bille Brahe rings, and ...
While most stars chose one immaculate outfit for the 2021 BAFTA Film Awards, Priyanka Chopra Jonas chose two. The first included a red floral jacquard jacket, and the second featured a stunning black butterfly Ronald van der Kemp set made from entirely recycled materials. Chopra Jonas’s BAFTAs 2021 wardrobe was handpicked by leading Hollywood stylist Law Roach. The first look was a red floral jacquard, open-bust jacket and white harem trousers, with a contrasting black waistband from Spanish designer Pertegaz’s autumn/winter 2021 collection. She paired the look with black Louboutin pointed-toe heels, black Wolford tights, and a Bulgari high jewellery, turquoise tassel necklace, with the brand’s Divas’ Dream rose gold earrings, and two Serpenti Viper rings. Her secon...
The 2021 BAFTA Film Awards red carpet looked a little different this year, with our favourite celebrities’ fashion choices coming from the red carpet and at-home, virtual photo shoots. Hosted by Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary, the presenters and nominees throughout the evening had us buzzing to get dressed up again by giving glimpses of sartorial selections that ranged from shimmering dresses to smart suits. Opening the red carpet was a lot of Louis Vuitton. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Phoebe Dynevor, and Cynthia Erivo all wore stunning designs by the brand’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière. We also noticed a few standout trends like metallic and sparkling, silver and gold dresses worn by Mbatha-Raw and Erivo; fringed details on Clara Amfo’s black suit, Sophie Cookson...
this time last year I went to the Brits and dressed as the girl I always wish I saw on TV pic.twitter.com/2fjUtDGZNP — Joy Crookes (@joycrookes) February 18, 2021 It’s officially been a year since the BRIT Awards last took place, and we’re still talking about some of the amazing fashion from the event. One look in particular stands out, however. On 18 Feb. 2020, singer-songwriter Joy Crookes paid the ultimate tribute to her roots, walking the red carpet in an Indian lehenga and chunni (top and skirt with a matching scarf), something you don’t usually see at Western award shows. Nominated for the Rising Star Award, she spoke to BBC about her red carpet statement and said that she hoped that “young girls can see someone who looks like their mum, their auntie, their gr...
