Here’s a List of Generational EDM Anthems That Turned 10 In 2022

It’s 2012. “Levels” is blasting through every house party. Big room house music is dominating the club circuit. Avicii, Skrillex and Pretty Lights are headlining Ultra Music Festival. Life is good. That year, the EDM bubble looked more like a 5 Gum commercial, a mind-bending maelstrom of fantastical electronic music festivals and totemic tracks. Rave culture bubbled up from the underground and exploded through the mainstream, leading to a collective serotonin rush that still remains. And while the EDM ecosystem is still thriving, it’s markedly different from those days, when DJs and producers pumped out hits like a broken printer. 2012 gave rise to a slew of generational dance anthems, which are now relics of a bygone era. Read on to turn back the clock a ...

Pophouse Entertainment Acquires Majority Stake In Avicii’s Catalog

Swedish company Pophouse Entertainment has purchased a majority stake in Avicii’s master recording and publishing rights. The assets of Avicii’s catalog were previously held by his family estate, though they still reportedly own 25% of the overall share. The partnership effectively ensures the iconic dance music producer’s family will continue to have a say in how Avicii’s music is promoted and utilized going forward. Avicii is survived by his parents, Klas Bergling and Anki Lidén. The former said the transaction ensures that the Tim Bergling Foundation remains fully funded for the foreseeable future. “Through this deal, we are also securing the Tim Bergling Foundation’s long-term finances, creating opportunity to act decisively on the foundati...

“He Will Always Miss Tim”: The Story of How Avicii’s Dog Was Inherited After His Death

Avicii may be gone, but his intrepid spirit lives on not only through his music, but also his dog, Liam. Intelligent, courageous, reliable—what can be said about Liam that hasn’t already been said of his former owner, an iconic artist whose imagination soundtracks our lives years after his death? The EDM community lost its lifeblood that tragic day in 2018. But Avicii’s fans can find solace in the fact that Liam, one of the last remaining vestiges of the legendary “Levels” producer, is living the high life in Italy. Liam now spends his days frolicking under kaleidoscopic sunsets on a lush property in Milan. It’s here where Liam’s trainer and current owner, Filippo Moretti, is earnestly fulfilling a “promise made to a great ...

Avicii Honored With New Wind Sculpture In Stockholm

One of Avicii‘s favorite locations in Stockholm has installed a new memorial sculpture in the late dance music icon’s memory. The Humlegården park is now the home of “Standing Waves,” a sculpture crafted by Adèle Essle Zeiss and Liva Isakson Lundin that is activated with wind energy. The sculpture consists of three metal pylons, each topped with uniquely shaped tubes and sheet metal sails designed to catch and spin with the whistling winds. The “Standing Waves” memorial sculpture in honor of Avicii. Giulia Cairone “Standing Waves” stands as a symbolic reminder that, like wind, music is a powerful force that spreads invisibly through the air, though the impact upon those within its reach can be great. The sculpture pays tribute to Avicii,...

Rolling Stone has published its list of greatest dance songs of all-time. Dance music has evolved immensely over the years and is now paramount to today’s contemporary music ecosystem. In order to land on their high-profile list, the songs “had to be part of ‘dance music culture,'” according to Rolling Stone. “It’s a more specific world, but an enormous one too, going back nearly fifty years and eternally evolving right up to today and into the future,” the outlet writes. “Every A&R Has a Horror Story”: Mark Knight Remixes Historic Avicii Song Years After Missed Opportunity to Sign It

The release of Mark Knight‘s remix of “My Feelings For You” marks a bit of a full circle moment for the Toolroom Records boss, but perhaps not in the way you’d expect.  Part of Vicious Records’ 30th anniversary celebrations, Knight received the opportunity to put his own spin on the 2010 Avicii classic.  Though it was released at a formative time in his career, Avicii’s “My Feelings For You” went on to become a wildly influential record. Knight, who was acquainted with the young star at the time, saw potential in him, but wasn’t quite sold on the DJ’s demo submissions.  Speaking with EDM.com, Knight recalls he had an opportunity to sign “My Feelings For You,” and says not seizing on it was a “...

Hardwell Opens Up About Avicii: “You’re Never Going to Convince Me There’s Someone Better”

Four years after his death, Avicii‘s innate artistry and incomparable studio presence continue to inspire the music industry’s most illustrious players. After torpedoing a four-year hiatus, Hardwell recently caught up with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe to chat about his relationship with the late EDM icon whose talent, he said, “was truly unseen in dance music.” “For me, the death of [Avicii] was definitely the trigger for me to, well, pull the trigger myself, and be like, ‘Yo, I’m taking a break. That’s it. I’m losing one of my friends now,’ and worst feeling in the world,” Hardwell said. “There is no way. There is no solution in-between. There is no way you can still tour.” Avicii and Hardwell. Hardwell/Twitt...

Don Diablo Remixes Avicii Classic “My Feelings For You,” Donates Proceeds to The Tim Bergling Foundation

Australia’s Vicious Recordings is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a remix of one of Avicii‘s early career hits. In many respects, Avicii’s “My Feelings For You,” which was released in 2010 prior to “Levels,”could be considered his first breakthrough track. Avicii hardly even had double-digit singles to his name by the time the song sped to #1 on the Beatport charts. “My Feelings For You” also gained momentum and registered on the charts across several European countries—a critical early testament to the potential of Avicii’s euphoric brand of dance music.  The original source material from “My Feelings For You” is derived from Cassius’ “Feeling For You,” a release by the French house g...
