Data Democratisation: Broadening the Reach of Data for the Business

Image sourced from Pixabay Even though data has become the lifeblood of every organisation, it is still not accessible (or even understandable) to all employees. The potential of data is virtually limitless. It can be used to transform, enrich, and boost companies by harnessing the value of the information they have at their disposal. To do so, however, requires decision-makers to embrace the concept of ‘data democratisation’. Data democratisation can be defined as the process of making digital information accessible to the average non-technical user of information systems, without having to require the involvement of IT. Sounds straightforward. In practice, it requires organisations to navigate the complexities of their data real estate and find more effective ways of promoting collaborat...

Google Files Patent for Wearable Devices to Control Music by Drawing on Your Skin

You know that song by Divinyls, “I Touch Myself”? Well, it would be perfect for Google’s recent patent filing, which may allow users to choose music by drawing on their skin. Google has reportedly filed a patent for skin drawing technology for its wearable devices, specifically the Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds. The patent, which was spotted by LetsGoDigital, shows how users can control their music by swiping or tapping on their skin near the device.  By simply tapping near the gadget, a mechanical wave is generated and read by the device’s built-in accelerometers and sensors. They interpret the incoming wave as a gesture for various commands, like skipping to the next song or fast-forwarding. Each wearable device will use machine learning technology to understand...

Apple May Soon Offer Music That Adapts to Your Heartbeat In Real-Time

Go from REZZ‘s midtempo to Headhunterz‘s hardstyle in just a quarter-mile sprint. Apple has acquired AI Music, a startup that creates songs using artificial intelligence based on your heartbeat. The tracks that AI Music’s Infinite Music Engine is capable of creating are royalty-free, dynamic, and change in real-time based on the user’s interactions. A higher intensity run, for example, would signal a more upbeat and energetic sound. AI Music reportedly believes their proprietary Infinite Music Engine is capable of generating custom music to provide the most flexibility for users based on their activity. “Music that adapts to your heartbeat, audio advertising that matches listener context, universal licenses across formats… All of this is possible, and mo...

Meta unveils Metaverse AI supercomputer, claims it will be world’s fastest

Facebook’s parent company Meta says that its newly-created artificial intelligence (AI) “Research SuperCluster” (RSC) will “pave the way” towards building the Metaverse. The social media giant said that it believes RSC is already one of the fastest supercomputers in the world and will snag the top spot when it’s fully operational in mid-2022, according to a Jan, 24 blog post unveiling the hardware. “Developing the next generation of advanced AI will require powerful new computers capable of quintillions of operations per second,” wrote the company. “Ultimately, the work done with RSC will pave the way toward building technologies for the next major computing platform — the metaverse, where AI-driven applications and products will play an important role.” CEO Mark Zuckerberg added in a Jan....
