Copenhagen's V1 Gallery is hosting a new group exhibition that explores the ways in which artists live and react to the changing beat of their respective cities. The work on display seeks to capture these stories, from the artist's personal observations of the corner shops, the rise in living costs and the hum-and-drum of their daily commute to how they t...
Amidst the buzz of London's Piccadilly Circus, CIRCA has become a centerpiece attraction slowing locals and tourists in their tracks. The culture platform has consistently partnered with numerous established and rising figures, from Shirin Neshat to Olaolu Slawn, who are tasked with lighting up the roundabouts giant LED billboard with poignant artistic messages surrounding social and political events.Legendary artist, activist and Chinese dissident Ai Weiwei is the latest to join the list and he's taking on a force with the same letters as his first name. It was only a matter of time until Weiwei, known for his unapologetic stances on social affairs, to voice his thoughts surrounding artificial intelligence's divisive integration within the arts. Ongoing now until March 31, Weiwei is posin...
Changing the pace from his usual small print drops, Cleon Peterson has released a new triptych set called THE POSSESSED. Opting for one dominant color palette, as opposed to three different iterations, the Los Angeles-based artist displays a tussle for power between two factions of humanoid figures — each represented by a black or gold hue with white accents. Violence and the pursuit for power have been prevalent motifs throughout Peterson's oeuvre, themes that have persisted across the history of civilization, to which he constantly mines for references. Drawing parallels to antiquity, Peterson creates largely monotone paintings and sculptures that aesthetically hark to the reliefs of Ancient Egypt and Greece, inserting modern political figures such as Donald Trump in an attempt to issue ...
Move over Midjourney, there's a new sheriff in town. Well, kinda. His name is Pablo Delcan, a Catskills, New York-based artist who's been offering his own prompt-based service called Prompt Brush. These aren't highly rendered, intensely saturated compositions that are typically churned out through AI, mind you. But rather, more humorous hand-drawn interpretations that Declan creates within a minute for each of the submissions he receives. This all started as a joke, but Delcan now creates up to 50 prompt-based artworks a day, totaling 1,000 since launch. It's understandably a “huge undertaking”, he's noted in a past interview, but merits the project for the way it's allowed him to connect with his audience “in a way [he] hadn’t before”.Drawings have included simple reinterpretations of a di...

While eBay has long been the reseller marketplace for most goods, StockX was one of the first dedicated platforms that kicked the door down for sneakers and streetwear collectibles when it opened in 2016. The world of art, as it pertains to that undefined threshold between high and low, still is without a StockX-like marketplace to provide buyers and sellers a trusted platform to acquire sought-after editions, prints and collectibles. FairArt was established to fill this gap. Exclusive to the UK, but soon to be available in Asia, Europe and the US, the platform features work from established and emerging artists, including Damien Hirst, Ai Weiwei and Nina Chanel Abney, along with Michael Reeder, Banksy, Cleon Peterson and Felipe Pantone. Credenzas may seem like a standard furnishing in everyone's living room, but the word itself has an unusual backstory. Centuries ago, the Italian word credenza ("credence" in English) was coined as a measure tied to belief. Essentially, nobility would have their servants sample food at a sideboard in the living room to test for poison. From an act of faith to a design object, American artist Paul Rouphail used the interesting transformation of a credenza as the theme of a new solo exhibition at Stems Gallery in Paris. The aptly titled show presents a series of new paintings centered around faith, fear and indulgence. In conjunction with an ongoing exhibition at its VLAB location, VILLAZAN gallery turns the focus back to its flagship in Madrid for a new group show called IN THE CLOUDS. The event brings together South Korean artist Diren Lee, Indonesian artist Suanjaya Kencut and Spanish artist Edgar Plans who create work that embodies the 'cuteism' movement that the gallery's founder has been an active proponent of. Known for his big-eyed "Animal Heroes", Edgar Plans created two wood on canvas works that pay homage to NBA greats, Michael Jordan and John Stockton. Both depict his cartoon figures outstretched like the Jordan Brand logo as they float amidst the clouds. In Suanjaya Kencut's vibrant paintings, the Indonesian artist creates alien-like dolls overlaid on flat colored backdrops, whose bodily pat...

Belgian authorities have recovered paintings from Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall that were stolen in 2010 from an Israeli art collector in Tel Aviv. Police from Namur, a city located about an hour southeast of Brussels, were notified that someone was trying to sell Picasso's Tête (1970) and Chagall’s L’homme en prière (1971) back in 2022. First reported by The Guardian, the anonymous suspect (codenamed "Daniel Z") is a 68-year-old Israeli watch dealer who allegedly stole the paintings and jewelry, that together, is worth up to $1,580,000 USD. After 14 years of investigating, local detectives received a tip when the two paintings in question were being put up for sale in Namur.Authorities raided Daniel Z's home on January 10, but found a "large sum of money", instead of the paintings. “The ...
